Fee for managing a light jet
Hello,
I am in discussion with a private owner-pilot to manage his light jet. Duties are just to look after all the admin, maintenance schedule, avionics updates etc and generally ensure that the aircraft is ready to fly when he wants it. It would be a part-time job for me in these difficult times, on top of freelance flying. What sort of fee would be appropriate for this service?

Interesting question
Normally I would say 10,000 us per month...
BUT, in this case I would try to pitch a rate that would cover a reasonable freelance Captains duty, and throw in the other duties.
I would guess, 250 stg per days flying, assuming all expenses paid, based on say two days per week. (assuming you are in UK).
Typically an "employed captain" on a small private jet would be doing all these duties, inc in a full time salary.
Beware any TAX and legal complications, but have fun.

I should clarify that I will not be freelancing on this particular plane - I am not type-rated on it. The job will just be to ensure that the plane is ready to fly whenever the owner wants it.
I am thinking of asking for a monthly fee, perhaps with a daily rate if the owner wants me to occasionally come along as a safety pilot.

Is cleaning inside/outside included? Does he expect you to do the flight planning and filing of flight plans for him and supervise the refuelling? This would mean that you have to drive to the airport every time he goes flying. And meet him and the airplane after landing. Or if the airplane is registered in some exotic coutry, you can expect a full week of bureaucratic paperwork every year in addition to all the other tasks.
I am in the lucky position of a corporate pilot whose airplane is managed commercially (including maintenance, paperwork, cleaning, towing, accounting) but besides flying there is still one or two days worth of little items left for me to look after (like Jeppesen/FMS updates, little "cosmetic" repairs of the interior that I don't want the cleaners to do, re-stocking of the supplies, handling the communication between the owner and the commercial operator and so on). Most of this can be done during my normal (flying) duty days and is included in my work contract anyway, but if I had to do it for some third party, I would probably charge two normal daily rates per month. Or charge the owner on an hourly basis if he prefers so. At a reasonable hourly rate, whetever that may be (30 Euros +/- 15 depending on the competition you have).
An alternative (not my idea, I know a guy who did exactly this) would be to offer your services in exchange for a type-rating. Limited, by contract of course, to a certain number of years. And when he takes you along as a safety pilot, you still charge him a daily rate of course, because otherwise your deal would not generate any monetary income for you.
