Using public transport to work???
I wondered just how many of us use public transport these days to get to the 'office' and what people's opinions are on wearing uniform in such cases.
Personally I live in a city centre right next to a station (train) that gets me right to the front door almost ready for the day.
I simply do not bother taking a change of clothing. I have to wear Nato/Bars but I will always wear my overcoat (without wings/bars etc)
I would personally feel more of a class A (prat that is) hop'in into one of the disabled lavs to get changed onsite!!
I am really interested to know just how many are using public transport these days and what your thoughts are on wearing the uniform to/from the field, would you
a) take a change of clothing and mess about the other end
b) wear your gear but not have it too on display
or
c) just get suited and booted and hop on board a Virgin..??
now please be nice... first time I have decided to fully register and get involved

Totally with you MB. It just doesn't seem practical to be messing around with changing ... Espec on the return after hours upstairs.. I am sure not ashamed of what I have achieved in my prof. career to date but it is a funny one I think when you see comments of flight crew mincing up high streets with the gold on display!

Uniform on but bars and tie in my bag and or overcoat over jacket. Changing in toilets I most definitely cannot be bothered. Prancing around in full regalia out of context (ie away from the airport) highly suspect IMHO.

Trouble is...do you want to look like a security guard or a station master?! I know a couple of people who have been asked what time the next train departs to Bognor and from which platform or how many shoplifters did you catch today??!!!
There's nothing wrong with being proud of what you are...that said, I wouldn't go to my local Waitrose and push mi trolley down the aisle wearing it!
P.S. What ever happened to the good old 'catch me if you can' days of flying anyway?!

i don't see anything wrong going to the airport to fly in public transportation, specially if you have it so practical, but i will avoid doing it in full uniform, I would rather try, as others said, to fully conceal the obvious (wings, stripes, epaulets etc).
Not because the fact of being proud or not of our profession, is just simply to avoid the usual staring looks and silly questioning of Joe Public, which happens all the time, and pilot's become a curiosity item everywhere the go.
It's just me, I'd rather have a more discrete and lower profile.

A few years ago a Germanwings Captain told me about the practical sides of their grey uniforms. They pretty much look similar to the ones that tram or bus drivers are wearing in Cologne, so he could ride with them for free...

but what if you drive a Boeing
All right for Bus Drivers.
Even get asked the stupid questions in the airport.
Was asked once on the LHR-LGW "Bus": whats wrong mate can you not remember where you left it....
At the time quite funny.
