North Pacific Crossing

Hello All,

we are planning to take a light business aircraft from the US to Asia via Alaska in mid April. Our "total range" including alternate is 1.300 nm, so the max we can plan is that as a total sector length including a possible diversion. It looks like alternates are not very close in the Alaska - Japan sector, so for example if the alternate is 300 nm away from our destination, we can plan 1.000 nm for the sector.

Does anyone have experience with such a flight and can give suggested routings which minimize the difficulties on the ground (permits, fees, overnights etc). We will have passengers in addition the core crew of 2 pilots so any knowledge of required visa is also appreciated. Besides the purpose of the ferry flight this is, we also want to see some nice places on the way so we are open to suggestions. The flight originates in the US, through Alaska and then all the way down to South East Asia.

Thanks in advance!

The Lear guys I have spoken with go thru Nome, AK, then down to Petropavlovsk to Japan or China. But Nome to Petro is 1300 nm, so you will have another stop in Siberia. I have overnighted in Petro--no fun. Magaden is also a possibility.

You will need Russian visas, a ground handler at each location and watch the weather--alternates are few and far between. LR40s do it with many stops.
