Possible New TAG Centre (Former RAF Coltishall)
According to todays local Norwich paper, Tag Aviation (Stansted) are interested in developing the former RAF Coltishall base as a storage and parting-out centre. I guess similar to Kemble . Apparently it is an idea with many benefits which would be well received by the local authorities.
The article states that airliners and executive jets would be dealt with.

Opebeatch - heads towards Elsenham, sighted on an industrial estate near the station. Coltishall is probably an easier drive from North Essex rather than doing battle with the M25 and A3.

think this is a no go, due to the very large wind turbine and prison, been told that housing looks like being granted.
Manybe TAG could look at North Weald as an alterative (see thread)

A multi-million pound plan to decommission and store civilian aircraft at the former RAF Coltishall airbase could be grounded by a planned wind turbine serving the neighbouring prison site.
As reported in yesterday's Evening News, an aviation business wants to use the 600 remaining acres of the old base to fly in civilian aircraft, mainly Boeing 737s, and take them apart carefully and sell the spare parts and scrap.
The project, which is in its very early stages, has been roundly welcomed by locals and politicians for its economic and jobs boost, its retention of heritage and its minimal impact on infrastructure.
But a plan announced in December to build a 130m-tall turbine on the old base to help satisfy renewable energy rules which were drawn up when 30-acre HMP Bure was given planning permission by North Norfolk District Council could scupper the decommissioning project.
“It is a potential problem. A wind turbine and an airfield don't fit together,” said Andrew Verdon, spokesman for TAG Aviation (Stansted), the business behind the new plans.
“A 400 foot tall turbine is a potential navigational hazard and we would need to discuss the detail with the Civil Aviation Authority.”
If the Ministry of Justice can renegotiate the need for a wind turbine on the site, either placing it elsewhere or using alternative renewable technologies to meet the planning rules, then the TAG Aviation (Stansted) project could still go ahead.
The other side of the argument is that the decommissioning project could put paid to the turbine plans, which would be welcomed by those who have been against the turbine since it was first suggested.
Council spokesman Peter Battrick said the legal agreement with the Ministry of Justice involving the wind turbine could be “open to renegotiation” if a request was made.
A public meeting to introduce the wind turbine proposal and project team to local residents is due to be held in February

I believe the TAG Aviation people are talking about is nothing to do with the FBO/MRO based at EGLF. The other (Stansted) company is an aircraft parts stockist that mainly deals in surplus material and parted out commercial aircraft spares, and is based in Elsenham.

Thats what I thought but surely they would not be allowed to use the same name! Seems a big jump from dealing in spare parts to actually stripping the aircraft and running their own airbase. Hope it happens though. Would be good for the local economy and job market.

Well, East Midlands Airport are building 3 or 4 of them on the Airport to offset their power costs and "to be seen to be green", the fact they could have planted them anywhere and still offset the power costs and been green obviously was not the same as being seen to be green.

The local Evening News is reporting today that MoJ have given TAG (Stanstead) preferred bidder status for recycling/client storage of aircraft. No prison, no turbines.
But plently of Jets! Excellent. Approx: 1 per day into Colitshall. MoJ state it should be finalised by Spring 2011.

Does anyone know if they have a website? Have searched but there is an unrelated (so I think) TAG Aviation that comes out, can't find a website for this particular one.
