Contract flying.....how does it work???

Dear ladies and gents.....my first PPRUNE contribution, here it goes.

I am hoping that some people want to share their experience flying contracts for the likes of Naturelink, Solenta, Zimex, Denim-air, FUGRO and so on. Mainly how they operate.....do they hire "independent contractors", like freelance pilots, or is there a payroll structure? Where do you pay taxes if you are not from the country they are based in? And would a license validation be sufficient to work for them? What about rosters, travel expenses, dangermoney, insurance, and ofcourse what you take home after your 5,6 or 12 weeks on. Thanks!
