TAG Farnborough-Doubling capacity????

It was in my local news tonight that there was a local planning meeting to discuss the request from TAG to double the annual amount of aircraft movements.

Apparently the local council were in favour of approving TAGs requests, but had received over 3,000 objections from local residents.

Does anyone have any of the facts please?

What is the current limit on movements?

And does anyone know the outcome of the planning meeting yet??

Present limit is 28,000 movements per annum, with up to 5,000 of those at weekends. Not sure what the result of today's meeting was.

Report in the Camberley News LAST week that that it was approved by the council planning committee, but would still be referred to the S of S.

I now understand that the council rejected the application.

Planning Application was rejected by the local councillors (not the local council, who actually recommended it be approved) so TAG will presumably appeal and the last Public Enquiry said that 50,000 movements was acceptable, as the councillors acknowledged, so it should be passed fairly quickly once it's taken to Government for the decision. And in the meantime it'll cost the taxpayers another few hundred grand in lawyers fees to try and raise a case which has already been dismissed by the Government before.

Still, we have a democratically elected Government system so I shouldn't be quite so cynical as they're only expressing their opinion, as is their right.

Actionstreamm Webcast - the webcast of the council meeting (which at 3 hours will make you wonder why anyone would become a councillor to be fair...)

We occasionally fly into FRN; not very useful airport, to far from anywhere...

Luton - London: 35.2 miles.
Stansted - London: 37.5 miles.
Biggin - London: 20.1 miles.
Farnborough - London: 39.2 miles.

Yeah, you're right. Nowhere near anywhere...

The slots are being requested as the airport is almost at capacity now; only about 2,000 movements short a year.

Yep, Fort Richardson, Bryant Army Air Field, Anchorage, Alaska (FRN) is probably 'too far from anywhere'. On the other hand Farnborough (FAB) is quite handy for London!
