Advice
I have been working as a freelance pilot and am awaiting a payment which includes my day rate plus some expenses. Although it doesn't amount to a huge amount I am sure you can appreciate every little helps, especially when there isn't much work out there.
The original invoice was sent 6 weeks ago and I am beginning to get concerned..especially as the company have not responded to emails asking for them to contact me.
What is the next stage in this type of situation?

1. DON'T PANIC
I've been in this game for years and been scared witless about this situation and amounts in excess of £50k before,
There are places I'd NEVER EVER choose to work again for various reasons but I've always always been paid in full in the end.
PHONE THEM AND ASK!!!
If the aircraft is run in house then the chances are that pilot services invoices are just another number.
You'd be amazed how many larger companies only settle with standard terms of 30, 60 or even 90 days. I know thats a pain in the backside but then you might be able to negotiate with them especially if you're a regular 'supplier'
If they're just being difficult. Shop them, its a small world.
Regards
Jeff

How to deal with it would depend a lot upon who you are trying to get your money from. A reputable company with whom you have 'history' or some fly-by-night shower who you've never dealt with before.
If the former then yes, be patient and tactful as they might easily have mislaid your invoice or simply be suffering a temporary cashflow problem with every intention of settling up as soon as they can. If the latter then perhaps a firmer hand is required.
Favourite technique either way is face to face. Go in to the office and politely enquire as to the whereabouts of your money. It's often harder for them to fob you off while you are standing in front of them.
If the niceties fail then it's unlikely you'll be working for them again anyway so go in hard and share the knowledge with the rest of the world so nobody else gets stung.

If they ever ask you to fly again, find an intersection to hold at, and ask the CEO to come up front. Then ask him if he'd mind holding for 30, 60 or 90 days until he gets to his destination.
True story. From then on, I was paid within two weeks of submitting expense report.
