Honeywell FMS
Hello,
On the Honeywell FMS, is there a page that one can look at to figure out what kind of descent rate the aircraft will use if in VNAV mode? For example, if you are asked to cross XYZ at 10,000 feet, and you wanted to use vertical speed as opposed to VNAV, where could you find the required descent rate?
CL601 and software version 5.2

Assuming the crossing point is a waypoint in your active flight plan and that you have programmed the crossing altitude in VNAV, yes.
Display the Active Flight Plan page; use the line select key to highlight the crossing waypoint; press the VNAV key. A VNAV WAYPOINT page will come up. The fourth line should give you the required FPM descent rate.

Gotcha....
There is a gotcha there. You have to keep monitoring the required vertical descent required in FPM. As your speed or any outside influence changes, that rate will change. If you do a 'quick peek' at TOD, and stick with that rate, you might be in for a surprise.
I also don't like to use the VNAV for descent because as that required rate (or angle) changes, the autopilot will go right to it, usually uncomfortably.
So, OK, use the rate of descent mode, and monitor and adjust via the required page. You'd be amazed at how much it will change as you go thru tail/headwind changes...

If XXX isn't in the active flight plan, put in a cross point for it (nav - cross piont - point abeam) . In the RHS (blue) speed and FL side, then put un FL100 into the new point abeam. Now DIRECT to that FL and the magenta glide will appear with a rate of descent. I too like VS for descending....Hope this makes sense as it takes 20 sec to show and a page of writing to try and explain it. The key is to go direct to the required FL as you would an LNAV piont, this time DIRECT and press the FL100 button on the RHS of the FMC.
