Shocking Approach - Beech Baron @ Blackbushe 10JAN09

Was eating a spot of lunch at EGLK today when out of the thick mist, a Beech Baron (Something like N841AF) came roaring along at about 50ft AGL from the North (above Blackbushe Market for you locals) before becoming visual last minute and carrying out what can only be described as the most shocking manouver in which to turn 90 degrees to the right and land over halfway down runway 25!! I've honestly never seen anything like it. The wingtip in the turn was not far from the deck and for a second i thought that we might see some Baron cartwheeling. Needless to say the chap at the controls must have a been a skilled fellow because he got it down, taxied back to RWY25 and took-off back into the mist almost immediately.

There was an EGLK fire truck on the side of the runway before landing, could this have been pre-meditated? Especially after such a hasty arrival and departure?

The Farnborough weather at the time was:

EGLF 101420Z 25002KT 2500 BR BKN003 M03/M03 Q1026=

I'm not up to scratch on the EGLK NDB DME 25 procedure in particular but is this normal? And if so surely you should be visual before AD elev. +50ft...Hmmmm....most intriguing. I certainly wouldn't of called it a 'stable approach'.

Interesting NOTAM too for the 12th + 13th Jan:

EGLK APT 20090108571V01 L0123/09
Q)EGTT/QMXLC/ /M / A/000/999/N5119.4W00050.8R005
A)EGLK B)200901121800 C)200901130000
E)TAXIWAY E CLOSED, DUE FILMING

Any info on this greatly welcome.

Ouch, like a dagger through the heart. I literally have no idea what you're talking about.

However credible? Yes, otherwise my airline are indeed paying me to improvise as i go along.

So did anybody see or know anything about this?

Hi sounds as if he took off and was very low trying to stay visual to land back. May have looked dramatic but the aircraft doesnt know its at 100 feet or 2000 feet.

What bothers me about reports like these is the fact that so many assumptions are made. It is mentiones that he became visual at the last minute. How do you know that? You were not sitting in the plane. How do we know if he or she was having problems? We dont. I dont know how long this Blackbushe is or even where it is. But I have landed long on countless times on long runways to save taxi time or to get off in a hurry for other traffic, most times at my request and sometimes at the instruction of the tower. My point is we dont know if this guy was a test pilot/former Red Arrow, maybe it was all under control the whole time. Could have been a cadet that will soon be in the right seat of a 737 or an A320

Helldog

could not agree more there are too many assumptions in this by people as you say were not in the Aircraft at the time..

If the manouvere was at a dangerous level then Blackbushe ATC would have filed an MOR..

Too many people making assumptions about nothing
