Just on my way to work and if I don't get sexually harassed today by the cabin crew the company will be hearing from my lawyers.

Guess?

Serious accusations, particularly relating to case that is sub judice, aren't really needed.

I have been plied with alcohol and taken advantage of, by predatory women (cabin crew included) but it would never have entered my head to go to court because of my misfortune. Maybe I should!

F/A Interviews

Well, a true story to make you laugh... from the good old days.
Happened around 1970... Los Angeles.
xxx
Two buddy F/Os, with Western Air Lines (now part of Delta)...
They decide to advertise selection of F/As for "an airline".
Using a P.O Box, receiving C.V., with pictures etc...
Age limits 18 to 25 (back in these years was legal to have limits).
Contacted some of them (20, or more?) for "interview".
xxx
They rented a suite at a major hotel near airport terminals.
One dressed with his pilot uniform, application forms (Western Air Lines)
Other paperwork from Western Air Lines. Large scale model WAL 727 on desk.
Looked quite legitimate, with posters, etc...
xxx
The other got dressed as a doctor, stethoscope around neck.
The little ladies got waiting for interview in the lobby, called one-by-one.
Airline interview... "suite 1234"...
Then physical exam (I do not know how detailed... but I imagine...)
xxx
That is all the details I got.
The pilot who was the "doctor" got nickname "Doctor" through his career.
I got to meet "Doctor" once, I asked his buddies why they named him so...?
They told me, laughing.
xxx
Shall you and I do the same...?
More fun, as I said, to be a "dirty old man". You guys are too boring.
xxx

Happy contrails

Wot transpired?

What happened at the end of this sorry tale?
Did she get millions? Did he get promoted? Did the court get bored or are we awaiting psychiatric reports?

Seriously-this is a sad and common problem

I understand all your bantering on this particular subject-but I do admire the guts of this young girl to go up against the "establishment" as she has sweet F all of getting anywhere. God love her-but good luck to her!

I worked for years in VIP as a Flight Attendant for some of the biggest operators. Your job depends on your never opening your gob. I was sexually harrassed, bullied, and when I dared speak out against my all powerful employer-well, my days were a numbered. And the intersting thing was, the horrible backstabbing I received was not mostly from the other pilots-but the other Fllight Attendants. It just didn't suit their agenda to deal with reality. Almost as if I threatened them by speaking the truth? Or maybe they were jealous? I had my bosses bodyguards knock all night long on my hotel door in Milan, had him try and kiss me ad nauseum on flights...........and for some ridiculous reason I Put up with it (swiftly ducking and forever inventivley diving the snogs) -uncomfortably. Til I got fired by phone call at 3am.....

The money was so good....and we were brainwashed into thinking we would never get a job as good as that, hey....we were the elite! It can be very intoxicating. Eventually, I made it clear to my boss there would be nothing happening......and several months later "I was no longer needed on the flights"

Someone quoted earlier on that this is "a robust industry, and when the pisstaking stops its a bad sign"-that is so true. But can you put yourself in th shoes of a young (often ambitious) girl who's seeing how she goes in this macho, sexist world. In my opinion, If you cannot intimidate (in a nice way) the pilots, you are well and truly f###*d!

I will follow with interst this girls case. I must say she looks somewhat gormless-and that silly pretentious old bugger thinking he could get away scot free- cos well, mostly they do. Lecher.

For your information, I am a red-blooded, man loving all round type of female. Yes, I have become slightly more feminist in age,in that I do not stand for anyone being made to feel small, inferior or intimidated, be it male, female or child. I feel for this particular F/A and admire her almost naievety and idealism in presssing charges. I was quite dismayed-yet hardly surprised at how jokey you all were about her plight-to her it's been an unforesen distressing event in her young life.

You guys need to pay attention-banter is banter, but if someone appears sensitive.....just leave it go man. Sending sexually loaded texts-from a 60 something-to a 20 something is repulsive.

In short-my point is-you judge who can and who cannot take "banter" and you therefore respect those boundaries-whaddy think guys?

Mooguy, you are irrefutably right regarding sensitivities; however while no-one knows all the facts in this case, it still seems like a cynical ploy to play the discrimination card to see how much money she can get.

Whilst in no way condoning your previous employer's lascivious behaviour, unfortunately it is not uncommon in private corporate operations. I guess I'm trying to say that corporate flight attending is not the right career for people of a sensitive disposition!

harrased or not?

I am sure this has all been blown out of proportion, I think that Capt Murray, OLD SCHOOL or not, has been made a scape goat out of this situation, The management team at Gama should have really been revised a long time ago, Corporate avaition is meant to be highly confidential, however I guess FAs posing with famous celebs on facebook pages is another story! how some people make this industry seem so tacky!, its a shame, there are some fantastic employers and employees still in this industry, Miss Proud has also been fired at Gama now for her part in the C4 Documentry on find me a husband!! says it all really.

Bit over the top!

I think this has been blown out of proportion, obviously there are 2 sides to every story, but, come on!! We all know the banter that gets exchanged onboard and downroute! I have had much worse said to me, believe me I can give as good as I get, thing is, in corporate its a smaller working enviroment, we all are generally friendlier with each other, more so than the airlines, and if your ultra sensitive to a bit of cheeky talk your in the wrong job!

I would like to know where you get your info from? Surely someone in a position of dealing with clients who, on the whole, like to be discreet, would approach their employer to talk about what he or she can do where the media are concerned?. I know its a free world but my understanding of the documentry is that they required to know the background of a 'candidate'.
Lets hope common sense prevails.

moogy

Good post indeed and I admire your stand. Were you not briefed as to the demands of the, shall we say, these "slobbering baboons"? If you weren't, you should have been. Correct, if you don't like it get the hell out.

The girl in question here is lucky to be able to able to take her case to court, as she sees fit, as she works or worked for a company based in a "civilised" country.

However in the Middle East/Third world, there is no recourse to legal and possibly fair action. However, there are two sides to this coin. I have know 3 pilots from one company who were dismissed because they crossed paths with the "chief F/A" who was sleeping with the owner. They had no re course to any legal action, or access to a Chief Pilot who had the guts to make a stand, whatsoever.
