My point was- why isn't it trained to NOT attempt a balked landing after extending the lift dump when everyone seems to indicate that it is an extremely effective system and a time consuming event to disarm it?

Methinks it might be a training issue or lack thereof. Of course, landing on a 5500' ungrooved runway after a weather event like that one is interesting too.

And a touch-and-go after reverser deployment is a big no no FYI.

A question for Hawker drivers:

Are all early Hawker models, i.e 800A & B models not fitted with thrust reversers? Presuming 800XPs and newer have TRs.

Thanks.

that's fine with me; have to admit that I misread your post, I thought you were asking something, not making a point.

Big no no or not, it is at least possible to recover from it in an emergency, should one guy pull 'em and the other decides to take over and go around.

TR's were a customer option on 800A & 800B models, I am under the understanding that they were made a std feature on the XP.

A recent issue of Business & Commercial Aviation discussed this accident. I would have expected the AFM to be modified to include either a recommendation, warning, or limitation on go-arounds after lift-dump is activated by now. Are there any current Hawker pilots that can offer any insights on this?

Sad story though.

Just a note; the NTSB Board Meeting is set for March 15/2011 and the final report is expected to be released shortly after the conclusion of the meeting.

International Hog Driver is correct about the standard fitment of Thrust Reversers.

Formulaben:
The major problem is if you get into Lift Dump and the PNF selects a flap setting other than 45, you must first get the flap handle back to 45 (move the levers to match the condition) or you wont be physically able to get the air brake handle out of the dump position because of the mechanics of the system.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the system, but it occurs to me that following the initiation of a Go Around would be a rather nasty time to learn this the hard way.

Official Cause: The captain's decision to attempt a go-around late in the landing roll with insufficient runway remaining, poor crew coordination, a lack of cockpit discipline, pilot fatigue, and the failure of the FAA to require cockpit resource training to pilots of Part 135 pilots (charter and business pilots).
