Good morning!

> Ah, that perfect world of an ideal owner and no commercial pressure

Yes, after more than 15 years in the business I finally established myself in my own little corner of this perfect world And I'm not going to trade that against 100ft of runway or 20ft of minimum or 100lb of take-off weight. On the way there I have been very, very lucky in more than one occasion though.

Always remember that your worst enemy in aviation is the insurance company. It will do anything they can to prove that _you_, the pilot, have deliberately done something wrong. And rest assured that your "commercially pressured owner" will be the first one to sue you over the damages once the insurance has made it clear that they are not going to pay. There goes your house and with it your familiy ... I've seen it happen more than once.

But again, It's your decision and only you know what's best for yourself.

Greetings, Max

On the landing performance front, there are wildly different landing perfomance capabilities between business aircraft that you might be quite suprised by.

For example the big boys like the GV/G550, Falcon 7X, A318, Global Express Legacy and Hawker 125s can generally get into the smallest airfields with the best landing performance (assuming minimum reserves and a few people on board). By the same token, the Lear 60, Premiair 1, Excel, CJ2+, Beechjet, Citation X and others of that size and indeed smaller, are absalutely useless on landing performance - can't get in anywhere useful, especially so on charters. They may well have wonderful take-off performance but the designers forgot to build in some good brakes, lift dump or any other aerodynamic brick walls.

Hard to believe, but on an apples-for-apples basis, an Airbus 318 business jet with say 4 pax and minimal IFR reserves (say the NBAA benchmark), when using the dry runway factoring of 1.67 times the FAR-25 landing distance figures, needs 1,000 ft less runway than a Citation Excel!

The Hawkers, Citation Sovereign and Falcon 50 are by far the best performers of that size.

When buying your next jet, don't forget to check this one before you choose the fabric for those scatter cushions!

Got to take you to task about mentioning the excel in the same sentence as the premier 1 v a v braking performance. Dont fly it anymore but remember the brakes and field performace fondly.

Does EU-OPS make any difference?

So what's the deal now, does anyone know? From what I understand an amendment to enforce these factors (as well as crew FTL limits) on private flights was not and will not be adopted.
