Which ground school do I consider if my aim is to be a business jet pilot?

If I wanted to be a business jet pilot, (as opposed to an airline pilot) do I study for the ATPL ground school or would i study for the CPL ground school & once exams are completed (and hopefully passed) the IR ground school + exams?

I'm just trying to figure out the point in having separate CPL and IR ground schools.

thanks,

I'm leaving this here rather than move it to the Wannabee Forum for now.

Can't see why there would be any difference!

I don't think there is any difference between the two. You are still flying paying pax and getting paid so as far as i know, you need an ATPL.

Apart from the difference in operation, being a Biz Jet pilot or an Airline pilot is essentially the same thing.

If you want to be a commercial pilot of any sort, you still need to do the exams.

I fly a biz jet and did the full integrated ATPL before i got my first job. Whether you do it in a modular fashion or integrated, you have to have those ATPL exams under your belt in order to fly commercial aircraft of any sort and get paid for it.

Good luck!

You'll eventually need ATPL exam passes so I'd just get them out of the way early on. It sounds like you've already decided to train via the modular route but for info - OAA (Oxford Aviation Academy) offer a "sponsorship" scheme in collaboration with NetJets Europe. Details on their website.

As has already been said you'll need the ATPL eventually so best get it out of the way while you're in study mode. It will also make you more employable than someone with 'only' a CPL.

To be a Captain on any multicrew aircraft (Light, medium or heavy jets), you will need an ATPL.
You will also find that many companies require a written ATPL for you to get an interview and a job.
Last, once you have passed the ATPL exams (assuming that s JAR we are talking about), you will be done with it. If you have taken the CPL written first (essentially the same one as the ATPL), you will need to retake pretty much all of them, which are, just the same you would have already done.
Money and time wasted and probably not sufficient to meet most Bizjet operators hiring requirements.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm not a complete wannabee. I got my CPL/ME/IR in Canada and have been doing some research to convert it to JAA when I got back to London. While I was reading the LASORS, I got confused between the different types of exams to study for.

Thanks again for the replies.

For JAR/EUOPS you need at least a frozen ATPL to be an F/O on any public transport, multicrew aircraft.
