Which aircraft to buy
Hi all you viz guys!
We need a bit of help for all you experts out there.
We need to buy and aircraft for a European operation. The range should be in the region of 1200nm with a pax seating of around 6.
Will a Cessna CJ3 be the right aircraft or should be go for something else?

You need to expand your mission profile a bit more, what runway lengths/elevations will you operate off, do you want to fill the seats 100% of the time, what exact route structure are you looking at, where are the alternates? Are you looking at single crew aircraft or two crew, what is your budget for purchase and operating. Will it be under an AOC, what registration? etc etc....
Unfortunately unless you want to waste a lot of money, you have to do the research in the beginning...

Scandanavian, Mutt is 100% correct. Further, many (on here) will have their own opinion of what is best for the job and you may end up more confused than you ought to be. Though I am no longer involved in Aircraft Sales, I spent many years in it during my early aviation career and I would recommend that you conduct a thorough comparative product research analysis beofe you put pen to paper!

Budget
Depends a lot on your budget as well.. CJ3 at around $9M , or if you're happier to go for something older, you could probably pick up an eight seater C2 for less than $2M which will have the legs and the short field performance, but might get you to Malaga - oh - 15minutes later than the CJ3 !!

The best jet to buy, and a very versatile aircraft, would be either an Excel or XLS. I have flown both and they are good aircraft. You will get nearly 2000nm range out of the XLS and as it has a low approach speed it can get into some small airfields. These aircraft are the best on the market for their size and very popular with the customers.
The XL can seat up to 8 pax in a stand up cabin about 5ft 7in with a toilet at the rear. It requires 2 flight crew, has a max cruise altitude of 45,000ft and cruises normally around .72.
The XL can operate into London City and is certified for steep app. Unlike some private jets the XL has a rear external hold that can accommodate about 700lbs of luggage.
I flew an XLS from Athens to Moscow with 2 pax and full fuel, it took approx. 3hrs 40min.
The XL is easy to fly and has a glass cockpit with an option of two flight management computers. It also has a good weather radar and an APU. The performance on the XL is very good, it can climb from a sea level airfield to 45,000ft at its maximum TOW in about 29min.
This is a great entry-level aircraft and more and more operators are buying them, so in order to be able to compete this would be my choice and well worth the money.
