Wal-Mart Aviation
My newspaper just ran an obituary of a gentleman who was a Senior Captain with Wal-Mart Aviation.
Would this be a corporate jet, or does Wal-Mart have its own air delivery system?
He was only 52.

Thanx. Just wondering what sort of operation Wal-Mart had. I never heard of an air delivery system, as in UPS, so I thought it might be corporate. The pilot had been a local, moved to Arkansas.

Wal-Mart operates a very large flight department in a very sophisticated operation. I believe the total number of Lear Jets operated is 18-20 (primarily Lear 31s with a few older Lear 35s). In addition, Wal-Mart operates a Gulfstream IV and a Global Express on international operations. It is possible that it also operates a few Twin Commanders for smaller fields.
Professional Pilot magazine did an article on Wal-Mart's flight department about 6 months back. It has a huge number of pilots and most of the aircraft disperse from their Arkansas base at 6AM for destinations throughout the US and international (GIV and Global Express). People often refer to the fleet as the "Wal-Mart Air Force". The Lears evidently make multiple stops on small airfields every day and are packed with sales people, etc.
Besides having to live in Arkansas, flying a Lear 31 rocket for Wal-Mart throughout North America wouldn't be too bad...

Hi all!
So I was told today that Wal Mart has a flight department in europe! Is this correct (apart from the commander that they operate out of Leeds) and if so how many aircraft/pilots do they have there?

As of several years ago, Wal-Mart was not a good place to have an pilot's job. The pilots share rooms on RON's and payscale is below norm. There are a few senior pilots there,that own stock in the company and make absurd amounts of money, BUT there are only a couple of those individuals and they've been there forever.
