TCAS/ACAS requirement for aircraft under 12500lbs

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me out with this as I have no idea where to find the relevant information.

Do aircraft with a MTOW of less than 12500lbs require TCAS/ACAS to be
JAR-OPS compliant?

If it indeed does.... would it need TCAS I or II???

Any help in this regard would be much appreciated!

Hi,

If I remember correctly, it is nr of seats and if its a jet or not rather then weight that decides if you need one or not. Above 19 seats its a requirement and/or if its a jet... TCAS I or II? I believe its becoming a requirement that all types required to have TCAS should have TCAS II from a certain date/year. This Im not sure of, but think I read something on this a few months ago....

This are the requirements for JAR-OPS 1 aircraft.

Quote:

JAR-OPS 1.668 Airborne Collision Avoidance System
(See IEM OPS 1.668)
(a) An operator shall not operate a turbine powered aeroplane:

(1) Having a maximum certificated takeoff mass in excess of 15 000 kg or a maximum approved passenger seating configuration of more than 30 after 1 January 2000; or
(2) Having a maximum certificated takeoff mass in excess of 5 700 kg, but not more than 15 000 kg, or a maximum approved passenger seating configuration of more than 19, but not more than 30, after 1 January 2005,

unless it is equipped with an airborne collision avoidance system with a minimum performance level of at least ACAS II.
