N reg charters
Do these guys with jets based in the UK on an N reg charter their aircraft or not? I know of one in particular which is a Citation Encore which flies back to the west of Ireland a lot, i'm just wondering if there is a loop hole in the system that allows you to do charters with an N reg aircraft. I know you need permission from the DTLR or whatever to do any commercial ops. but do they allow these 10 a penny?
Cheers, td

The simple answer is no. To get permission from the DTR you would have to demonstrate that there was no European company with a suitable aircraft available, which while not impossible is difficult.
There are companies who indulge in dodgy "lease" arrangements, but they are in the minority. The bulk of N reg operators, including the Encore you mention, are doing purely private flying.

Just browsing some old threads and found this one. Thought you could legally do the following
(1) hire an N reg aircraft
(2) entirely separately, hire a suitabily qualified pilot to fly said aircraft
So long as the hirer did not get anyone else to chip in towards the costs.
