Moscow Caravan crash

just copy pasting, sad accident, looks like the Caravan may have been caught in icing....

Plane Crash Outside Moscow Kills 8 Created: 20.11.2005 10:52 MSK (GMT +3), Updated: 10:52 MSK, 37 minutes ago A Russian plane with eight people on board crashed overnight killing all passengers and crew, Russian media reported on Sunday. The Cessna light aircraft came down just outside Moscow and burst into flames when it hit the ground, news agencies reported. Officials said heavy snow and the pilot’s violating the flight regulations caused the crash. RIA Novosti news agency reported that among the passengers was Igor Olshansky, an assistant and son to a deputy in the State Duma, lower house of parliament. There were also two women on board. The passengers were reportedly returning to Moscow after spending the day hunting in Voronezh, Gazeta.ru added.

MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax) - Violations of flight regulations are a likely cause of the Cessna plane crash outside Moscow on Saturday evening, according to the Prosecutor General's Office.
"Violations were probably due to snowy weather," deputy Prosecutor General Nikolai Savchenko told the press. "When falling the plane caught fire. The two crew and six passengers were killed when the plane hit the ground. Experts are working at the scene," Savchenko said. A Cessna light aircraft crashed on a flight to Moscow from Voronezh near the village of Staroye, 10 kilometer northeast of the town of Stupino outside Moscow.

MOSCOW: Eight people were feared killed when a small airplane crashed in the Moscow region, Russian news agency reported early Sunday. Six passengers, including lawmaker Nikolai Olshansky's son, and two pilots were on board the plane bound from the southern city of Voronezh to Moscow, but air controllers lost contact with the plane before it should have arrived at the Moscow Domodedovo airport, emergency ministry officials said.

The plane turned out to be 2004 Caravan 208B-1052, reg P4-OIN (Aruba), ex-N1283Y, flown by Russian crew.

So a couple of hours after the crash and the Prosecutor already has the case sown up, darn we could do with him to investigate accidents elsewhere, it normally takes months if not years to come to a conclusion. Wonder why the AAIB are so slow.

Dear Daysleeper

Don't shoot the messenger, I've not sown up the case, I just indicated my thoughts based on the sketchy circumstances in the reports by stating "it looks like" and so on.

This is standard practice until the great Russian wheel of consensus rolls over the whole thing and blames the pilot....

Everything here really looks they got warm snow shower just few minutes (ca. 30 km to go) before reaching destination airport. This weather was expected, guys probably thought they have enough time to land.

I'm not getting at you in any way. Just at the state official who cannot possibly know what happened at this early stage. Thats why I put "prosecutor" in bold. Sorry if I inadvertantly caused any offence there.

Just noted about 'Citation' in the first post.
Sure it wasn't Citation.
The plane was 2004' Caravan, reg. P4-OIN (Aruba), ex-N1283Y, flown by Russian crew.

FLEXJET: There is nothing about "twin" in the article you link to.

According to the (file?) photo, if you look at the windows, it is not a Caravan...

I saw the P4-OIN info on gazeta.ru too, but I was not able to get confirmation elsewhere.

Twistair, are you sure about the type?

I am. It's easy that our media use any "crashed airplane" photos - not surprising at all.
P4-OIN according to information has met the Globe almost vertically and was completelly destroyed by fire after impact.

If it was a caravan, they do not have a great history with flight in icing conditions. Several have crashed in icing, the last one being in Winnipeg Canada in early October of this year.

My condolences to the famlies of all involved.

Not good news. P4-OIN is a 2005 build as well.
