2 or 4 engine transport? Need a clue on this one, I think.

Cheers!

Hi Karlark, Its a twin engined bomber. I've seen it given three names (well, letter number designations) , so any one of them will do. Good luck!

Karlark 31st December 2012 15:15

Is it British, something like the Avro Manchester?

Mechta 31st December 2012 15:26

Not British. Some had petrol engines and some had diesels, but don't make the 'obvious' assumption...

evansb 31st December 2012 17:22

Looks Petlyakov Pe-2ish, but given the diesel-power clue, I'll guess the Tupolev Tu-2.

Mechta 31st December 2012 18:27

Hi Evansb, Getting very warm! Not the Pe-2 or Tu-2 though.

Karlark 31st December 2012 19:10

Maybe Yer-2, Yermolayev.. not sure of the spelling. :)

Kerlark

Spot on. Yermoleyev Yer-2, also known as the DB-240

My apologies for the long delay in responding, Mrs Mechta's granddaughter spilt something wet, red and sticky on the laptop & killed the keyboard!

Karlark 4th January 2013 12:13

Hi Mechta,

Thanks & no problem on the delay. Let's try this one:

G'day Karl, from a very hot Oz - gonna be 43 deg.C today.

Single or a twin?

Karlark 5th January 2013 00:36

gonna be 43 deg.C today.
Holy buckets, that's about 109* F!

Down to about -23*C a few days ago up here. We're fishing thru the ice!

Single or a twin?

Hi,

Let's try some rivets...

Warning: unusual PoV.

Harley Quinn 8th January 2013 21:25

Top left of image appears to be a blast tube for a gun? right of image seems to be a stream wise fairing. Confused by what looks like a tear in the material centre of the pic. Pic should be turned 90°? Something along the lines of a Gloster Gladiator?

Top left: nope, not a gun.
Right: a fairing it is indeed.
Centre: The "tear" is rust.

Rotating 90° won't help (I guess).
It's not a Gloster. This one is newer and faster than the Gladiator.

Lightning Mate 9th January 2013 10:43

French jet ?

AlphaZuluRomeo 9th January 2013 10:55

Oui (indeed).

Lightning Mate 9th January 2013 10:58

Mirage 4 ?

AlphaZuluRomeo 9th January 2013 11:52

Yes, that's it. Mirage IV-A N°29 "BB" preserved @ Avord AB.

Its belly, more precisely. Photo taken from under, at dawn (hence the weird look, and the morning dew)

The "top left thing" is the rear of the bomb vault (you can see this vault on this picture)
The fairing hosts the internal elevon mechanism.

Your control, Lightning Mate.

Thank you.
