Please excuse this Thread Drift - but until I came across this the other day I had no idea that such an event had occurred:

Thank you jensdad.
Hamburg is a nice city indeed.
Now this:

The wing tip is about in the middle of the former hexagonal field.
Nowadays the glider strip is the top bar of the T.

I think another clue is required:

chevvron 12th Aug 2022 06:52

Is it in the UK?

sycamore 12th Aug 2022 13:24

Is that another airfield right at the top, large green space, and another glider strip just above the canopy rail,as there is another glider there at low level....?

chevvron 12th Aug 2022 14:31

I would guess both gliders are circling in the same thermal.
Closest I can get is Southrop but I'll keep looking.

It is not in the UK,
Although the challenge is fairly close to a recent other challenge, it is not not within the same picture.

The bomb damage made me think of Germany.
Is it now the gliding site at Wenzendorf, South east of Bremen?

Self loading bear 12th Aug 2022 21:23

UV has it!
Wenzendorf Blohm&Voss factory field.

You can take the lead.

UV 12th Aug 2022 22:04

Sorry nothing to hand at the moment so OH please.

Hi OUAQUKGF Ops, Yes indeed, 'Big Bang' massively changed the shape of the island, you can still see where one end of the plateau just blew off into thin air. I'd definitely recommend a trip there.

Dear fellow contesters, and challengers,

Asturias has recorded the challenges of the last 7 months. (Thanks!)
I have come a long way by aligning the various (slightly) mis-spelt Airport names and Countries so the list has become easier to check for you.

If somebody knows how to load this excel or the zip into the Wikipost at the top, please feel free to try!
(and explain to me later)

I still use the "Search this Thread" function - but dunno how accurate it is?

Didn't see this listed...

Not much wrong with that.

First of all I want to encourage all non die-hards to also post challenges more often.
Especially when you have your own photos and stories.
No problem if it is a doubler.

Only if you post more often and you take your pictures from the net, than it might be handy to check if your challenge has not been posted (recently) before.

The database can also give some inspiration:
The photos of lots of early challenges (thread I, II and III) have got lost.
So all airports listed in red background can also be re-run without fear of re-using pictures.

I added a list of countries, states and islands.
of the 195 official countries, we have not yet visited 24 of them.
In this list also added large island (groups) and dependencies of which at least 16 are not visited yet.

I found quite some mis-spelling in the threads so your thread search may not find it.

Shackman 14th Aug 2022 12:12

Are we in Danny42C's hunting grounds?

chevvron 14th Aug 2022 15:10

Looks like a Bolingbroke no make that a Beaufort

Shackman 14th Aug 2022 18:35

Wondered if it was an early picture of RAF Cox's Bazar.

Noyade 15th Aug 2022 02:19

Yes, DAP Beaufort.
Sorry, dunno where Danny hunts.
Southern Hemisphere.
Just the name of the bay will suffice...
Possibly (few caption details) this strip was named after a former QANTAS flying-boat captain.

wakefield 15th Aug 2022 03:44

Milne Bay. OH if correct.

Noyade 15th Aug 2022 23:45

That'll do nicely. Limited information with the caption but possibly No.1 strip - later known as Gurney, after Sqn Ldr C.R. Gurney.

Open House.
