Caribbean?

chevvron 15th Feb 2023 17:00

More like Maldives with that white coral sand.

teusje 15th Feb 2023 18:18

Not the Caribbean or the Maldives, but the latter is closer.

I thought I had scanned the whole Seychelles but the islands are widespread!

teusje 16th Feb 2023 16:19

Bird Island it is. This seems to the terminal building.

Roundwood Farm?

OUAQUKGF Ops 17th Feb 2023 11:54

Sadly not Roundwood - but we are in Britain.

The manufacturer of this aeroplane owned the subject aerodrome for a very brief period indeed before WW11..........

descol 17th Feb 2023 15:53

maybe - Barton in the Clay - Bedfordshire ?

OUAQUKGF Ops 17th Feb 2023 15:57

A very good answer - you are certainly on the trail - but not there yet.......

OH if correct

OUAQUKGF Ops 18th Feb 2023 08:35

UV has it with Eaton Bray. descol you were only a few miles away having identified the Marendaz Trainer which was built at Barton le Clay.

Above extracted from 'On The Wire' Eaton Bray and D.A. Russell by the Late Richard Riding.

There was also a 'Sportsdrome' with Tethered Racing, Horse Racing and Motor Bike Racing......

This airfield is no longer in use. In a European country, but not in Europe.

India Four Two 18th Feb 2023 10:15

chimbu beat me by a minutes, so I've withdrawn my challenge.

Asturias56 18th Feb 2023 13:22

"In a European country, but not in Europe."

Now that's a very careful description  - the only places that come to mind are either the countries which physically stretch outside Europe (Russia & Turkey) or those where the whole of their empire are considered part of the home country - France, Spain, maybe Denmark.......................

Is it one of the former or the latter?

siftydog 18th Feb 2023 14:12

The Azores / Rabo de Peixe?

chimbu warrior 18th Feb 2023 21:14

Is it one of the former or the latter?
It is one of the latter in this case. And not the Azores.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....abb0dfd2df.jpg
It was once quite a busy airfield.

OUAQUKGF Ops 18th Feb 2023 22:01

Looks like a bad attack of 'Delhi Belly'........

chimbu warrior 18th Feb 2023 23:26

Not the sub-continent, but warmer than continental Europe.

Spanish enclave of Ceuta?

chimbu warrior 19th Feb 2023 05:46

Spanish enclave of Ceuta?
Much further afield, and not Spanish.

Is it/was it part of France?

Asturias56 19th Feb 2023 15:58

is it in the American hemisphere?

India Four Two 19th Feb 2023 16:07

Judging by the heat shield on the Quonset hut, I assume somewhere hot?

Self loading bear 19th Feb 2023 16:38

Yes hot
but not American hemisphere

Asturias56 20th Feb 2023 08:06

Africa perhaps?

India Four Two 20th Feb 2023 14:49

I've been trying to make out the blurred writing on the end of the Quonset Hut. I can make out "Commerce Bank Pte.", which should narrow it down.

Singapore use "Pte." but I very much doubt this aerodrome is in that country!

PS It could of course be "Pty." which has Australian connections.

Asturias56 20th Feb 2023 15:44

Oddly I believe Cambodia uses Pte.

Big place francophone Africa - the last picture reminded me of a couple of places in Angola but that's not French. The design looks late 60's early 70's and remarkably small for anything constructed by ADP or by a "Father of his People" leader - which is the default setting in those parts.

Does it still look the same now?

"Airport " rather then "Aeroport" ........... very interesting

The only place I can think of where you get a French/English mixture is Cameroon - which was merger of UK & French colonies - Yaounde is an International Airport" and Kriti is an Airport as well I believe.............................
