Speaking of Van Gogh; this was made at a nearby location.

well it doesn't look like Arles....................
|
The drawing looks like a variation of an 'Painter on the road to Tarascon' Perhaps an earlier on the road work of 1881 - Happy Hunting !
|
I started looking at where Vincent had lived - I gave up when I got to 20 separate places before he really started his career......................
Never realised he lived in Stockwell for a while............... |

The airfield perhaps over the border from this Dutch Town (Etten) ? (On The Road 1881) |

think I've got it - chased the various European destinations the Farman flew to
"A Belgian company with one of the longest airline names, Syndicat National pour l’Etude des Transports Aériens — fortunately shortened to SNETA — operated its first Goliath service between Brussels and London on 6 April 1921. It had six examples, some formerly French-registered. Two, O-BLEU and O-BRUN (ex-F-AHFY), were lost in a hangar fire at Brussels-Evere in September 1921. The company ceased operations when O-BLAN ditched in the English Channel in August 1921" never heard of the Brussels airport but apparently it was also known as Haren - Google it and there's Bear's second picture.................. now used for NATO offices |
Asturias has it with Haren-Evere.
“NATO compound” would have been my next clue. The first photo was probably taken from the roof of the airship hangar. Van Gogh stayed in Brussels and made the sketch “en route” in one of his letters he send. En route https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....8f3fee7b3.jpeg |
That was tough...................
This has no relation to Vincent whatsoever.............. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....507bfb1816.jpg the strip has been improved in the last 10 or so years |
The challenge has the word "International" in the title but it only gets a couple of domestic flights a day - but the politicians were pleased

Oecussi, East Timor?
As I understand there was a dispute over payment to the construction company. |
I thought this one would run for a while but forgot that Chimbu might look in - his knowledge of modern obscure airports is encyclopediac!
Yes it Oecussi in the E Timor enclave. An obscene amount of money was wasted on upgrading what had been a useful and proportionate airstrip with a twice daily (if you're lucky) flight to Dilli in a Twotter or similar- in one of the poorest countries in Asia. Its rumoured that the airgates were only used on the opening day (see overhead picture) - really is tragic. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....12895777fd.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....5aaa53ded6.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....82f41d9dd1.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....a4a0df2c88.jpg |
