Does anybody know if it is IFR equipped?

I don't think so. Seeing as they seem to be pretty much flying in formation with the PC12 at lowish levels dodging cloud and weather!

Back on thread...

G-IRTY has cracked on this evening and just arrived at Kangerlussuaq on Greenland's west coast, making up a bit of time for the weather delays at Lossie and Reykjavik. I assume they aim to cover the 350 odd miles to Broughton Island tomorrow, weather permitting. Then the next leg to Iqaluit perhaps, less than 300...

Arrived at Iqaluit this afternoon UK time, not sure if that's it for the day.

treadigraph 12th Aug 2019 17:39

A tad under 400 miles to the next planned stop at Kuujjuaq Airport across the Hudson Strait, about two hours. Plenty of daylight left but Windy showing rain on the south side of the Strait so maybe they'll wait for better weather tomorrow.

India Four Two 15th Aug 2019 22:50

I see they finally got away from Iqaluit, but not before a couple of orbits to gain some altitude.

I’m surprised they haven’t registered with FR24 in order to display the correct icon.

...and on her way south to Wabush now. Wonder if they'll be able to push on to the next airport, Mont Joli, today.

I hardly think that those behind the flight can be held responsible for FR24's inability to draw a Spitfire outline. :O

I hope the film crews are following for the follow-up TV prog.

treadigraph 16th Aug 2019 21:36

Change of plan it seems... Stopped at Schefferville, then SW to Chibougamau where they've just landed - presumably a night stop - 300 miles to Gatineau where they were due to stop for 4 nights.

treadigraph 16th Aug 2019 22:40

Not a night stop, G-IRTY's airborne again and en-route Gatineau...

Dave,
I agree, but what I was referring to is that in order to get the correct generic SE icon, the onus is on the operator to register all the aircraft's details with FR24. I would have thought that the organizers of this expensive advertising stunt would not have overlooked this small detail.

OK, I hadn't heard of that requirement, and frankly I'm surprised at it.

While I agree that it's unreasonable to expect FR24 to have a separate icon for each of 3,000-odd ICAO designators, I wouldn't have thought that it was beyond their wit to maintain a lookup table that would allow at least assignment of a generic icon that corresponds to how ICAO categorise a given aircraft (of which there are only a couple of dozen common combinations), for example "light single piston-engined fixed-wing".

Anything would be better than showing G-IRTY as

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....a0de63fbdf.jpg

for want of a little bit of common sense.

India Four Two 17th Aug 2019 07:52

Dave,

I only know about this issue because I recently uploaded data to FR24 on behalf of a friend whose Arcus M motorglider was also showing up as a twin jet. FR24’s explanation and the data required can be viewed here:

https://forum.flightradar24.com/thre...craft-database

It is relatively straightforward. Boultbee should have done this before this circumnavigation started.

DaveReidUK 17th Aug 2019 08:30

Hmmm.

Thanks for the link. But that says:

Correct icon is set based on the ICAO Type code. When correct ICAO Type code has been provided, the icon will be correct.
which is clearly not the case - Boultbee don't need to tell FR24 that G-IRTY is a Spitfire, or that its ICAO designator is SPIT. FR24 already knows that:

Heck, they even show a photo of it looking not very much like a twin-jet airliner !

treadigraph 17th Aug 2019 09:09

Well, made it to Gatineau! Apparently it should have been there Tuesday for an appearance with the Sparrows... ah well time and inclement weather wait for no man...

treadigraph 25th Aug 2019 19:42

A week on and G-IRTY has stopped at El Paso to refuel, en-route the next night stop at Nellis. Weather has forced a complete change of US stops to those originally envisaged and the team have spent a couple of nights with Comanche Warbirds in SW Texas.

treadigraph 28th Aug 2019 07:18

Made it to Santa Monica yesterday afternoon, leaving for Mojave on Saturday.

treadigraph 3rd Sep 2019 11:53

Now spending four days at Everett for a 50 hour check. Arrived via Mojave, Santa Rosa and Madras (the other one).

treadigraph 5th Sep 2019 16:49

Off again already, crossing back into Canada, Kelowna, Williams Lake and a night stop at Fort St John.

While in SMO, one of the pilots became reacquainted with WP833, one of the RAF's "Round the World" Chippies.

Matt Jones had flown in WP833 as a cadet when she was based at Exeter. Thirty years later he got to fly her 'proper'.
