Good afternoon Karl,

That's another good call mate :D

It is the Ryan XV-5 Vertifan

http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...5-vertifan.jpg

This aircraft was Ryan’s last aircraft design and a venture into the realm of non rotary wing vertical flight. Fans in each wings as well as the nose could direct thrust downward while conventional jet exhausts provided thrust for horizontal flight. Powered by twin turbojet engines this research craft carried a crew of two in a side-by-side arrangement.

Two XV-5s were built — one lost in a crash and this one damaged in an accident which killed the pilot, Bob Tittle. It was rebuilt and eventually placed on display on the grounds of the U.S. Army Aviation Museum.

Overall, the Vertijets were flown from 1966 through 1971 by a total of 15 test pilots.
Karlark has requested an Open House :ok:

I knew it wouldn't last long in this crowd. :)

If, by any slight chance, I'm right it's OH

MReyn24050 22nd Nov 2011 22:23

This one is not the North American F107.

Kitbag 23rd Nov 2011 08:20

Voughtght XF8U-3 Crusader III then?

Kitbag 23rd Nov 2011 08:22

How strange, I posted an answer at about 17 30, but it shows up as 09:20!

SincoTC 23rd Nov 2011 13:38

Odd goings on again, seems I posted this early this afternoon, just had a similar problem on the cockpit thread, so I'll leave it there (above some way) and try again :ugh:

SincoTC 23rd Nov 2011 13:46

Bugger, that one came in below the first!! I've changed threads a couple of times and come back to try again, third time lucky maybe :uhoh:

http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...allenge016.jpg

Edit: and it's happened again!! I've just noticed that the Prune clock is showing 14:47 GMT, so it's gonna keep slotting it in according to what time it thinks it is. Gonna leave it for now and will tidy up later. Funny, 'coz I managed to sort out the Cockpit glitch, although it did pitch me out and I had to log in again

Noyade 23rd Nov 2011 14:53

MReyn24050 23rd Nov 2011 14:56

Folding ventral fins at the bottom sides of the photo? Is that rope on the lower right?

Not rope but a loop of bungee I believe. You are correct about the fins.

Thanks Mel,

I'm fed up with trying to get my posts in the correct place, I keep getting spat out when I try and delete them as it says I'm not logged in!!

My new challenge is above (three of them :ugh:) when it's resolved I'll tidy it up!

SincoTC Challenge

The Prune timetable has gone haywire. Your challenge that appears to have been posted this afternoon is in fact a North American B-45 Tornado.

All times are GMT. The time now is 23:02.
