Hi Alpha.
A maintenance platform that folds back over the jet engine? High off the ground? |
Helicopter?
Bell UH1? Posted from Pprune.org App for Android |
Hi noyade,
A maintenance panel, yes. And it's high indeed. @ Kitbag A rotary wing it is, but not a Huey. |
OK, I may have been a little too mean tilting the picture.
It is now back to "properly oriented" (4 posts above - if needed [CTRL]+[F5]). |
Ahhh....I see now!
Cause I just couldn't figure out why the engine stuck out like that and the 'fuselage' just seemed to vanish.... http://i59.tinypic.com/2ywthy8.jpg Cheers! |
Super Frelon ?
|
Noyade: sort of, but wrong way.
evans: nope. |
Yeah mate, that was my "pre-turn" perspective. :)
Puma? |
Not a Puma either.
In fact, not a French aircraft, even if the picture was taken in France. |
Mi-38 possibly?
|
Closer, but not a 38
|
Mi-38 possibly?
|
Uh?
|
Possibly Mi 18?
|
Closer again, but still not it.
Use KISS principle. ;) |
Mi8 then ?
|
Almost :)
It's a Polish Mi-17, the upgraded export version of the Hip (aka Mi-8MT in Russia, so your "Mi-8" is pretty much OK for an answer).:ok: Here is the full picture (and other of the same aircraft). Your topic :) |
|
|
If it is Zaxis, open house please.
|
6 minutes.....!
Yep, Avtek 400 Open house .... |
|
Some clues then...
It's a Pratt and Whitney R-1535-7 engine. Circa 1936. The aircraft is serving with the 118th Observation Squadron Guard. Photographed in the maintenance hanger at Brainart Field, Hartford. |
Douglas O-46A. Additional clues not needed. There were plenty of clues in your initial photograph. Good photo by the way..

Thanks Brian, a good picture and a nice Challenge :ok:
Now, almost in control, here's another, not such a good piccie, 'tiz a bit grainy but the subject should be easy as it's from a well known photo :) http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...pscc9ad8ae.jpg |
G'day Sinco. :)
the subject should be easy as it's from a well known photo http://i60.tinypic.com/flk4ch.jpg |
G'day Graeme,
is it the rare and very ugly Tunison Scout? With the prominent twin banks of the engine and those "droopy moustache" exhaust pipes, 'tiz a real ugly bugger innit :) Noyade has control :ok: |
Thanks Trevor! I originally thought French. :)
Now, I'm not sure if this one flew.... http://i60.tinypic.com/25tgodt.jpg |
