oldpax 2nd Jul 2014 11:53

Sorry bout that!

This Terminal had only just opened when we arrived in October 2011 ,I worked near here in 1989/91 and remember the old one well, shall not be returning though ,nuff said.I was impressed with the new airport in Delhi though(clue!)

TheChitterneFlyer 4th Jul 2014 12:36

oldpax 4th Jul 2014 23:59

Varanasi it is!

All yours Chitterne flyer!

TheChitterneFlyer 5th Jul 2014 11:06

RAF Odiham?

oldpax 5th Jul 2014 11:15

Wrong on both counts!

It has fixed wing as well!

TheChitterneFlyer 5th Jul 2014 11:34

I'm not sure about that Jenks... there's not quite so many trees surrounding that corner of the HMS Heron.

Except, on further investigation, I'm wrong! It is indeed HMS Heron.

TheChitterneFlyer 5th Jul 2014 12:01

Might I translate Wattisham?

TheChitterneFlyer 5th Jul 2014 12:13

RAF Oakington?

oldpax 5th Jul 2014 12:21

Not anywhere near yet!

I was stationed at Oakington in a former life but this is not it!More than 150 miles from Oakington! That should do it for you!

oldpax 5th Jul 2014 12:30

Good info but ....?

Mr Jenkins your fishing for it!!

TheChitterneFlyer 5th Jul 2014 12:45

Dishforth used to be home for the Lynx; I think!

TheChitterneFlyer 5th Jul 2014 12:46

Culdrose is another?

oldpax 5th Jul 2014 13:19

interesting but no!

I think there are not many left!OK heres a clue some of the aircraft here have folding wings!

TheChitterneFlyer 5th Jul 2014 13:28

Lossiemouth? Buccaneer's? Failing that... Yeovilton (HMS Heron) which was previously mentioned.

TheChitterneFlyer 5th Jul 2014 13:42

I suspect that JENKINS was correct with his previous post of HMS Heron (which is RNAS Yeovilton).

oldpax 5th Jul 2014 13:55

HMS Heron it is!

Having been a civilian for many years I only new it as the Fleet air arm museum!!Well done Jenkins sorry for the delay!!

TheChitterneFlyer 5th Jul 2014 14:01

Which, coincidentally, Yeovilton is less than 150 miles from Oakington!

Airclues 22nd Jul 2014 13:54

The only historical thing about this photo is that it was taken from one of the oldest forms of aviation (at 7 this morning).

Taken from HAB
Correct

Equestrian facility near airstrip, perhaps dressage ring,
Correct

suspect microlight or models?
Microlight....yes
Models........no
SEP, SSEA and SLMG....yes (according to the balloon pilot)

Horses unlikely to appreciate the burn
They didn't seem to mind. They're used to it here.

Harvesting underway in one field?
Completed.....just stubble.

Edit;

It's a fairly new strip built to service the equestrian facility. It's probably not a good challenge as it's not shown on any charts. However there is a single runway grass airfield only a few hundred yards away (shown on aviation charts). The name of that one will do. I think that anyone who gets this will know the area. If it hasn't gone by bedtime I'll reveal the location and declare open house.

Edit 2;

The equestrian facility is brand new (not shown on GE). No shortage of cash here as the runways look like bowling greens.

chevvron 22nd Jul 2014 19:36

Lambourne, Berks? (ie not the LAM one in Essex)

Airclues 22nd Jul 2014 19:49

Sorry Chevvron, not Lambourn. Do you ever fly into White Waltham (hint!).

Dave

Airclues 22nd Jul 2014 22:05

Not a fair challenge as you would have to know the area to get it.

It's at Harpsden, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. It's about half a mile to the SW of the other grass strip at Harpsden which is shown on the aviation charts (from where Virgin launch their balloons). I don't think that this airfield has a name yet (unless anyone knows different).

This one has a modern building now !

oftenflylo 23rd Jul 2014 07:09

Just skipping back to the Harpesden strip - it has been there at least 20 years-more likely 25 years. Fixed wing throughout that time.

TheChitterneFlyer 23rd Jul 2014 07:29

RNAS/RAF Bramcote?

Or, the old tower at Waddington.

oldpax 23rd Jul 2014 10:46

Waddington

Your too good for me !!Over to you chitterne flyer!!!

aviate1138 23rd Jul 2014 11:19

Proper Planes?

That really gets me going......

Aeroplane [so called 'proper'] and Aeroplane [Microlight] should be viewed in a more

intelligent light IMHO. Some designs are in both 'Proper' and Microlight categories.

Granted the winged motorcycle weight shift types are also Microlights but they all require skill to fly and should all be flown and enjoyed and there are plenty of 3 axis Microlights that outperform and cost less than 'proper' spam cans.

as for the Aerodrome at first glance I thought Plaistow's but it couldn't be less like it on second glance.

chevvron 24th Jul 2014 00:45

Going back to Harpsden again! It's on google maps complete with equestrian facility but less a couple of runways.
In fact, looking at Bing Maps they have a more up to date image with all the runways.

Airclues 24th Jul 2014 08:48

Re; Harpsden.

Info came from balloon pilot (we departed from the other Harpsden airfield just to the north). I can't remember seeing it when I used to fly my little Jodel D9 around there, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't there.

I believe that TheChitterneFlyer has control.

The airfield is in the vicinity of Vienna. It was used by the Luftwaffe, Heinkel and WNF (Messerschmidt) as Factory airfield. Later by russian airforce.

No takers since Jul 29th. So here it is:
