Sorry bout that!

Varanasi (VNS) Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport? |
Varanasi it is!
All yours Chitterne flyer!
|
I'm having difficulty uploading images (website issues), hence, Open House.
TCF |
Easy one!
|
RAF Odiham?
|
Wrong on both counts!
It has fixed wing as well!
|
I'm not sure about that Jenks... there's not quite so many trees surrounding that corner of the HMS Heron.
Except, on further investigation, I'm wrong! It is indeed HMS Heron. |
Might I translate Wattisham?
|
RAF Oakington?
|
Not anywhere near yet!
I was stationed at Oakington in a former life but this is not it!More than 150 miles from Oakington! That should do it for you!
|
Good info but ....?
Mr Jenkins your fishing for it!!
|
Dishforth used to be home for the Lynx; I think!
|
Culdrose is another?
|
interesting but no!
I think there are not many left!OK heres a clue some of the aircraft here have folding wings!
|
Lossiemouth? Buccaneer's? Failing that... Yeovilton (HMS Heron) which was previously mentioned.
|
I suspect that JENKINS was correct with his previous post of HMS Heron (which is RNAS Yeovilton).
|
HMS Heron it is!
Having been a civilian for many years I only new it as the Fleet air arm museum!!Well done Jenkins sorry for the delay!!
|
Which, coincidentally, Yeovilton is less than 150 miles from Oakington!
|
The only historical thing about this photo is that it was taken from one of the oldest forms of aviation (at 7 this morning).

Taken from HAB Equestrian facility near airstrip, perhaps dressage ring, suspect microlight or models? Models........no SEP, SSEA and SLMG....yes (according to the balloon pilot) Horses unlikely to appreciate the burn Harvesting underway in one field? Edit; It's a fairly new strip built to service the equestrian facility. It's probably not a good challenge as it's not shown on any charts. However there is a single runway grass airfield only a few hundred yards away (shown on aviation charts). The name of that one will do. I think that anyone who gets this will know the area. If it hasn't gone by bedtime I'll reveal the location and declare open house. Edit 2; The equestrian facility is brand new (not shown on GE). No shortage of cash here as the runways look like bowling greens. |
Lambourne, Berks? (ie not the LAM one in Essex)
|
Sorry Chevvron, not Lambourn. Do you ever fly into White Waltham (hint!).
Dave |
Not a fair challenge as you would have to know the area to get it.
It's at Harpsden, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. It's about half a mile to the SW of the other grass strip at Harpsden which is shown on the aviation charts (from where Virgin launch their balloons). I don't think that this airfield has a name yet (unless anyone knows different). Open House |
This one has a modern building now !
|
Just skipping back to the Harpesden strip - it has been there at least 20 years-more likely 25 years. Fixed wing throughout that time.
|
RNAS/RAF Bramcote?
Or, the old tower at Waddington. |
Waddington
Your too good for me !!Over to you chitterne flyer!!!
|
Proper Planes?
That really gets me going...... Aeroplane [so called 'proper'] and Aeroplane [Microlight] should be viewed in a more intelligent light IMHO. Some designs are in both 'Proper' and Microlight categories. Granted the winged motorcycle weight shift types are also Microlights but they all require skill to fly and should all be flown and enjoyed and there are plenty of 3 axis Microlights that outperform and cost less than 'proper' spam cans. as for the Aerodrome at first glance I thought Plaistow's but it couldn't be less like it on second glance. |
Going back to Harpsden again! It's on google maps complete with equestrian facility but less a couple of runways.
In fact, looking at Bing Maps they have a more up to date image with all the runways. |
Re; Harpsden.
Info came from balloon pilot (we departed from the other Harpsden airfield just to the north). I can't remember seeing it when I used to fly my little Jodel D9 around there, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't there. I believe that TheChitterneFlyer has control. Dave |
My humble apologies ... I've been away for a few days. OPEN HOUSE.
|
|
Austria?
Dave |
Yes, and as you see, not activ
|
The airfield is in the vicinity of Vienna. It was used by the Luftwaffe, Heinkel and WNF (Messerschmidt) as Factory airfield. Later by russian airforce.

No takers since Jul 29th. So here it is:
Zwölfaxing near Vienna. Zwölfaxing in the lower left Corner, Vienna A/P in the right upper Corner OH. https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/46...633/NshzEG.png |
This thread seems to have withered a little, so perhaps I might try to re-vitilise it with a fresh offering:
