Lightning Mate 15th May 2012 09:30

Morning Ken.

Sorry mate - I was also a little confused last night - I was looking at another image I had stored. http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ies/wibble.gif

Prolly that nice bottle of port I had been given.

edit: I have to leave in any case in twenty minutes for a couple of hours of lecturing. :uhoh:

Morning David...say no more mate;)

Right, off we go with the next challenge:

Lightning Mate 15th May 2012 09:41

Blimey mate - it seems to have a float in mid-air above the cockpit.

skytrain10 15th May 2012 09:42

it seems to have a float in mid-air above the cockpit.
Could give a clue as to the location of the wing:)

Ridge Runner 15th May 2012 10:46

Low wing I reckon? Russian? Single engine?

skytrain10 15th May 2012 10:55

Morning Martin

Low wing I reckon? Russian? Single engine?
No, yes and yes :)

I should be technically correct here. Because of the era, this aircraft is from the USSR. I am not entirely sure if it was built in Russia, or a former Soviet state, although I believe the latter.

Ridge Runner 15th May 2012 11:36

Biplane?????

skytrain10 15th May 2012 11:42

Not a biplane.

Ridge Runner 15th May 2012 11:47

OK, so a high-wing (with wing-tip floats?). However, it also sems to have buoyancy gear along the fuselage, al la Dornier?

skytrain10 15th May 2012 11:52

OK, so a high-wing (with wing-tip floats?)
Yes:ok:

Not sure about the buoyancy gear though, nothing obvious in the 3-view or photo.

skytrain10 15th May 2012 12:06

The photo does exhibit some differences to the side view I have used, albeit nothing that would prevent recognition of the challenge. The most obvious difference is that the tail is partially filled in, as well as a different profile to the underside of the fuselage. Whether these were just inaccuracies on the original 3-view used or changes to the design I don't know. Anyway, I'll post a revised silhouette shortly.

Revised silhouette to reflect differences between photo and 3-view:

Lightning Mate 15th May 2012 12:59

Is it actually from a Russian flying boat designer?

skytrain10 15th May 2012 13:15

Not a company (or designer) particularly known for flying boats.

skytrain10 15th May 2012 13:56

Clue, this can best be described as a homebuild or perhaps more accurately, an amateur design.

Ridge Runner 15th May 2012 14:37

A Shavrov??

skytrain10 15th May 2012 14:42

Not a Shavrov Martin.

Lightning Mate 15th May 2012 14:45

Not a company (or designer) particularly known for flying boats.
Which is why nothing comes up - I've been through all of them.

Ridge Runner 15th May 2012 14:52

Me too!!!! Ken, you're a bu***r :)

skytrain10 15th May 2012 14:56

Mmm, this one seems to be proving difficult:)

Perhaps you're thinking it's older than it is....1970's design. It used major components from other aircraft, as well as a boat!

Lightning Mate 15th May 2012 14:58

:eek::eek::eek:.......
