Mmmm.....

High aspect ratio with sweepback.

Some aspects of it remind me of the Jungmann/Casa 1.131E.

Is it based on something like those?

skytrain10 11th May 2012 16:48

Yes it is similar to the Jungmann and it could have served as inspiration or the basis for this design. Unfortunately there is not much documentation about the aircraft and its history, so I am really only speculating.

Lightning Mate 11th May 2012 17:00

Oh dear.

Well, it certainly looks like a modern homebuilt, apart from maybe the tailwheel support.

I would imagine it's built for aerobatics, but I'm not sure.

I'm also trying to identify the aerial array in the background.........

...and wossa dangly jobber under the lower wing..........

skytrain10 11th May 2012 17:15

A late 60's design. Not listed as a homebuild but you can assume it is.

Again probably aerobatic, but nothing documented that I can see.

I think that's a dangly antenna beneath the fuselage:)

Lightning Mate 11th May 2012 17:15

If that aerial system is what I think it is, it's later form of Adcock working on LFR. The last was decommissioned in the 80s.

Therefore is the challenge at least thirty years old?

skytrain10 11th May 2012 17:25

Think our post's cross...1960's design.

Found a magazine article about it! Yes, designed for aerobatics, and has undergone numerous transformations in terms of its engine over the years. Still registered today and was flying as of 2010.

Will be offline shortly for a couple of hours. Usual rules apply in my absence:ok:

Lightning Mate 11th May 2012 17:33

I'll be going as well mate, but I'll pop back later.

I wonder if it's based on a Great Lakes design.

The morning should be interesting.................

Lightning Mate 11th May 2012 17:45

Anything to do with Nick D'Apuzzo ?

skytrain10 11th May 2012 19:57

I wonder if it's based on a Great Lakes design
No, but you are in the right country.

Anything to do with Nick D'Apuzzo
Not that I can see.

Good morning Ken :),

It's the Elmendorf Special 1 (N716L), photographed at Wittman Regional Airport.

Have a good weekend mate.

Elmendorf Special 1
For what it's worth, confirmed kill in my opinion. :ok:

Lightning Mate 12th May 2012 09:36

G'day mate. :)

Agreed, but it would be unlike Ken and TC to not appear soon.

However, as it's 1936 local time with you I can appreciate your enthusiasm.

SincoTC 12th May 2012 09:44

Morning David, evening Graeme :)

Coffee break time, no sign of Ken yet! I found his photo, so I'm pretty sure it's correct.

Thanks Graeme, am I cleared for take-off?

Lightning Mate 12th May 2012 09:45

I found his photo as well.

Clear take-off.

SincoTC 12th May 2012 09:48

Thanks David :ok:

This shouldn't take too long!

Lightning Mate 12th May 2012 09:51

Prolly not with Graeme lurking about, but he's also trying to find my "challenge".

Noyade 12th May 2012 09:53

No idea.

Never ceases to amaze me the number of aircraft the world has produced.

American?
