Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 10:54

..........

evansb 30th Apr 2012 12:31

It is the I.S.T L-21S Flying Vinta. OPEN HOUSE

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 12:44

I think we should offer that to skytrain personally.

He was on a fairly accurate track.

evansb 30th Apr 2012 13:04

Okay. skytrain has control.

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 13:06

Thanks Bri. :ok:

Mind you, he's disappeared now. :uhoh:

skytrain10 30th Apr 2012 13:42

I'm here:)

Nice challenge Brian:ok:. Last known IST aircraft I could find was the L-17, so searched for L-18, 19 and 20 without any joy. Didn't go as far as 21:(

Here's the next one:

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 13:47

UAV .......?

skytrain10 30th Apr 2012 13:52

UAV
Not a UAV mate. And thanks for your support on Brian's challenge:ok:

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 13:54

I only thought it right.

Stealth job then?

Ridge Runner 30th Apr 2012 13:58

The big Boeing, mate???? incorrectly called the 797?

http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/flying-wing-structure.gif

Ridge Runner 30th Apr 2012 14:00

er maybe not! :(

skytrain10 30th Apr 2012 14:08

Stealth job then?
Not designed as a stealthy machine.

The big Boeing, mate???? incorrectly called the 797?
Not that.

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 14:12

Do the wings move?

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 14:24

Methinks it's a blended wing lifting body.

skytrain10 30th Apr 2012 14:36

Methinks it's a blended wing lifting body.
Blended wing, yes, but not described as a lifting body.

Do the wings move?
No

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 15:16

A passenger aircraft?

skytrain10 30th Apr 2012 15:20

A passenger aircraft?
Well it is certainly designed to carry people, but it's a light aircraft, not an airliner.

evansb 30th Apr 2012 15:24

Is it the proposed X-48 BWB ?

Ridge Runner 30th Apr 2012 15:30

Is it a microlight, Ken, designed to look like a blended wing in planform?

skytrain10 30th Apr 2012 15:35

Is it the proposed X-48 BWB ?
Not the X-48.

Is it a microlight, Ken
Not a microlight, but you are on the right track - a homebuild.

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 15:45

Quick shot before home.

Is it called the Atlantica?

skytrain10 30th Apr 2012 15:47

Is it called the Atlantica?
A good quick shot mate - yes it is the Atlantica, from Composite Aircraft. Well done:D

Some photo's of the prototype
http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/9edc7a40.jpg

http://i551.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/41ac876f.jpg

They are also proposing a mini-jet option!

LM has control

Ridge Runner 30th Apr 2012 16:15

Ah ha .... nice one Ken and David!!!!

skytrain10 30th Apr 2012 16:29

Glad you liked it....found it whilst looking for some more unusual types.

I tried to reply to David as quickly as I could but he went offline as I posted so guess we'll wait for him to look in when he gets home.

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 16:30

Good grief!

I think we were all looking at mil stuff, and I don't think me or anyone else would have got there without the clues.

We haven't had one of these for a while:

skytrain10 30th Apr 2012 16:46

I think we were all looking at mil stuff, and I don't think me or anyone else would have got there without the clues.
Well I figured it was worth keeping things moving along. It actually went as I expected.....since the picture I used for the silhouette was taken well forward of the aircraft it created almost perfectly the planform for the X-48 or "797", whereas in reality the sweep angle on the Atlantica is much greater:)

Now yours....German or Polish....?

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 17:12

taken well forward of the aircraft it created almost perfectly the planform for
the X-48 or "797
bar steward.....

Challenge - neither mate.

skytrain10 30th Apr 2012 20:40

Struggling with this....the wings look odd, starboard appears to taper, but the port not? Also there seems to be no strut on the port wing - or is what looks like a strut something else?

American David...possibly the Franklin PS-2?

Edit to say, on closer inspection, no.

Lightning Mate 30th Apr 2012 22:27

The wing struts attach to the bottom of the fuselage, so the apparent lack of them on the left wing is down to perspective.

The illustration is of a model, but you are in the right country.

1929, and as of last year two were still on the registry.

Karlark 1st May 2012 03:40

All the clues point to...

http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...det-II-Box.jpg

edit; open house if correct :ok:

Lightning Mate 1st May 2012 05:54

Good shooting mate. :D

Karlark has declared Open House.

skytrain10 1st May 2012 08:21

Nice call Karl....so much for my internet glider source.....3,000 odd gliders but doesn't list that one:( Good challenge David.

Ridge Runner 1st May 2012 08:24

OK, not a silhouette as such but ....

http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/...6/77d90989.jpg

skytrain10 1st May 2012 08:45

No obvious signs of propulsion, so another glider - or maybe an ornithopter?

Ridge Runner 1st May 2012 09:02

Sorry Ken, I meant to say that the image shows the machine without its 7.5hp motor!!!!! RR

Excellent! Thanks Mel!

Lightning Mate 1st May 2012 15:59

Evening Martin. :)

Perhaps a clue is in order here.

Ridge Runner 1st May 2012 16:03

Ah.... life!!

Yep....

It was built in 1912 and had a bicycle seat for the pilot. As I said before, it had a 7.5hp engine. Needless to say it couldn't take off!!!!

RR

Ridge Runner 1st May 2012 16:05

I'll speed it up a bit more as it is past five o'clock!!! The image on the net is from Shavrov! :)
