Some old scanned pix
I recently scanned some of my late father's negatives and, if anyone is interested, I shall put some more here.
The following were taken at Lympne on Aug 31, 1947 (I was 6 months old). They are of the Miles Mohawk G-AEKW, once owned by Charles Lindberg. The pilot named on the second picture says Wing Commander Earle and I have placed it there just in case someone finds it of interest (I would like to know). http://www.rcyachts.net/oziom/Leica/...947-shrunk.jpg http://www.rcyachts.net/oziom/Leica/...947-shrunk.jpg Cheers |
Hello PH, Welcome to PPRuNe. Pictures of old aircraft are always welcome at AH&N. Please post some more. Simon |
Chilton (later EoN) Olympia prototype first flight
Taken 10 Aug 1946 by my old man who did the drawings (based on the
original Meise but beefed up for added strength and an extra 25 kilos). |
Fascinating!
|
Ah! At Lasham in 1967 we [self + 2 pals] bought the Polish Air Force Gliding Club's Oly 2B.
I managed 6 hours one sunny day and a gain of height and a sore bum! Thanks for the pics, and to your old man for making the Oly safer and sweeter to fly. :) |
We love old pictures but they are too large I'm afraid. Please re-size them to no more than 850x850 - 850x720 is even better.
Thanks. PPP |
OK PPP
Will do. Do you want me to delete those up already? |
Simpler just to edit and replace.
'PinkHarrier' - not a 1(Balloon)Sqn man, are you? |
More Olympia prototype pix
Dad checking out the wing construction 1946. This was done at Chilton (of Monoplane fame) Lodge near Hungerford.
|
PinkHarrier, thanks very much. They fit perfectly.
Now, have you anymore please? PPP |

To BOAC. No not a 1(Balloon) Sqn man. May I ask why?
|
Great stuff, PH! :ok: And is that a Firefly behind the Avro?
|
PH - if I recall correctly, a 1(Ballon) Sqn Harrier was painted pink overnight by a Norwegian squadron while 1(B) were on detachment there. I would have said Bodo but its a while.
These pics are superb. Thanks. |
I believe the Mohawk is on display in the RAF Museum in the Milestones of Flight exhibit. I last saw it under restoration in a museum in Florida. I would have thought Old Warden would be a better home for it but perhaps it wouldn't be welcome as it's a non-flyer.
|
I would suggest it`s a Master,behind the Prefect; see there`s a pun there...

You could be right, Sycamore, especially as the second Prefect image seems to afford a better view of the same aircraft!
