There`s an airborne aircraft just over the rudder of the Redhill Prefect,and a Hallibag lurking behind the hangar in the snow pic,and in the last one as well.

The airborne a/c looks more like a blemish to me. :confused:

Lovely photos, thanks Pink Harrier. Trying not to hijack your thread but for BOAC's info, the Pink Harrier was after 1 (F&B) Sqn came back from exchange at Dijon in Nov 76. I thought the same as BOAC, so, go on tell us, what's the reason for the Pink Harrier moniker?

Interesting. The Master parked behind it looks like a glider towing GT.II variant. I swear I've seen those FE markings on another once somewhere. Sorry to hijack. I just like GT.II's :)

Why PinkHarrier? Well one day I was trying to get a yahoomail name and initially
tried blackeagle. Taken. Red too. So then Red Falcon. Gone. Blue, black.

This went on for quite a while so in disgust i tried pinkharrier and it said fine.
So, I thunk a litlle and then said what the hell. I actually photoshopped a
Harrier pink to go with the moniker.

The Bonanza in Msg 18 is Swiss registered......HB-***. Shouldn't think there were too many Bonanzas around in Europe in 1947......

Superb pictures, I especially love the DH Hornet it must be one of the best looking aircraft ever. Strange to think that you can still buy a new Beechcraft Bonanza (straight tail) after all those years.

Thanks, PlaneMike, for spotting the HB under the Stbd wing. A little searching makes me think it is HB-ECI (later OO-ECI)

I thought Swiss Bonanza because of the two [possibly white on red background] crosses on the butterfly tailplanes. Never saw the large HB under the wing. Just to say thanks for some really interesting pics and long may this thread continue say I.

Have to say, like aviate, I picked out the Swiss national insignia on the tail and the base of the "H" on the fuselage. Missed the HB- under the wing !! HB-ECI seems very likely.

The image of G-AKCX is very interesting and at the same time confusing. On checking AJJ's Britsh Civil Aircraft we find an image of KCX showing the stbd side of the aircraft and the legend "Prestwick Scotland". G-INFO confirms C of A issued 11 Aug 47 to Irvin-Bell Helicopter Sales Ltd. at Prestwick.

Your Dad's photo shows the port side with the legend "Letchworth England" around the same date. Wonder if anyone has an explantion? A/c was written off in a crash at Heathfield near Prestwick 7 Feb 1949.

It was the first Bell 47 on the British register and probably the first Bell built a/c on the register.

Re G-AFYH #21 and OO-FAH #25 , I would say its the same Halifax by the petrol pumps (theres another one in #25) and Gatwick seems more likely..... shape of hangar, a Halifax could land at Redhill but could it get out? Interesting photos!
At one point (late 40s?) Transocean DC-4s were freighting in Bonanzas from the USA on the 'empty' leg of emigrant flights to Canada (UK Govt scheme)...maybe included the Swiss one
