One usually did a visual downwind RH for RW 27 although there was an offset VOR approach. Horrible place when windy ( and usually was )
Pitch black nights with strong gusty crosswinds and down drafts on short finals to RW27 were rather challenging in a B767-300. But hey, I don't have to go there any more. :)

Yes, GO was of the very best, and not only for looks.

An utterly tragic and idiotic loss.

Whilst talking about old liveries, what about retro liveries not yet seen ! for Example British Airways (never gonna happen I know ...but) there's a plethora of airlines out there that were once independent but got sucked into the BA family one way or another..... just imagining BA A320's in Northeast, Cambrian and B Midland viscount colours plus Older BEA colours.....anyone think of anymore?

Imperial, pre-war BA Ltd,Railway Air Services, BSAA,BOAC, BCal, Dan-Air (hence Scottish Airlines), Brymon?

AeroSpark 21st Sep 2014 20:07

Has anyone got any pics of old Brittannia 737-200s? My first ever flight as a 7 year old was on one from Manchester in about 1983. I think all their aircraft at the time were named after famous people, and I think the one I flew on was Sir Henry xxxxxxx

Haven't got a photo but I'm sure someone can provide some. Alexander Calder livery for Braniff.

I also wonder what happened to them as I would think they would be worth a fortune just for the art work alone.

Continuing the crosswind thread-drift....perhaps the Provider runs to Naples were looked on as holiday flights if you had the right connections?

The Britannia 737 has the original engine pods which Boeing replaced for free after a few score had been built

Fairchild C123 Provider (USAF)
Thanks for that. Oddly once I saw the word Provider in post below (started at most recent and working up) the name of mfr tripped off my tongue.

AeroSpark 17th Oct 2014 13:26

Here's a few I found while looking through some holiday snaps earlier. Mostly from Manchester early/mid 80's.
