I agree that it looks very Russian but it is not. Probably no help but the occupant is the designer.

So, a Marx bros Mk1?

Boarding now.....

teusje 12th Apr 2010 08:37

Is it Japanese?

HarmoniousDragmaster 12th Apr 2010 08:39

Does he realise someone is about to steal his gun with a giant pair of tweezers? Wake up man!

Not a clue what it is, but I was thinking along German, Rohrbach lines.

Looks like Hispano-Suiza engines. Total being four? French?

Did this "machine" fly?

MReyn24050 12th Apr 2010 13:06

Could this be the Curtiss-CT Torpedoplane with Wright-Hispano H engines?

Right country, right function but not Curtiss. This designer went on to conceive more famous and successful aircraft but not under his name.

William B Stout's All Metal "Torpedo Plane" perchance, the Stout ST-1?

one11 12th Apr 2010 15:24

Mel has it. William B Stout in his twin Packard engined Stout ST-1 all metal torpedo-bomber of 1922. The source picture is just as shown but here is one from Aerofiles.....

When a Navy pilot crashed it, the USN lost interest which forced Stout to seek new finance which came from a group of Detroit auto companies, including Ford which eventually took over the company, with Stout as Chief Designer, leading to the Trimotor.

Well done and over to you.

Doug

Thanks Doug.
A very interesting challenge. The beauty of this thread is one is always learning. I never knew of the existence of that aircraft or the Curtiss CT until today.
Here is the next:-

A bent Beech - AT-10

If so, open house

MReyn24050 12th Apr 2010 16:42

That is the one.
Open house as Doug says.

one11 12th Apr 2010 20:13

As the house is still open, here is one for the night and/or antipodean shifts...

De Havilland DH34?

one11 13th Apr 2010 10:20

Not a DH.34

Lightning Mate 13th Apr 2010 10:50

American then, which might have been designed as a mail carrier?

one11 13th Apr 2010 14:58

Not American , but it was designed as a specialised freighter originally

one11 13th Apr 2010 20:11

As it seems rather quiet, a clue at the 24 hour mark - the manufacturers are much better known for their earlier military designs

Lightning Mate 14th Apr 2010 07:45

Something keeps dragging me back to the UK. If that's a fuel tank on the upper wing, then that was a DH trademark, but you have ruled out the DH34, so is it another DH design?

one11 14th Apr 2010 07:54

Not deHavilland and not UK.........

Where is everybody else ?
