Dinosaurs mention of a Constellation led me to a news site on Connie's .....

I never realized so much work is currently being done on preserving such a magnificent aircraft .....

As well as all the Northern Connie activity, we a have a fully serviceable Connie operating in Australia. For those interested check out
http://www.hars.org.au. The Australian Connie is actually a USAF C121 in disguise as a Qantas Connie but with Connie on the aircraft rather than Qantas.She celebrated her 10th year in Australia last year.
Connie is flown a few times each year and the longest recent trip was from Albion Park,just south of Sydney, to Kalgoolie in Western Australia.Her next big trip will probably be to the Avalon Airshow next year.
HARS also operates a Catalina, 2 x Neptunes, 2x C47s and a number of smaller aircraft.
The museum is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

I noticed a Connie parked up in Dublin on various trips in around 1979/ 80

I think that might have been one of Lanzairs. Possibly the one now derelict in Kuwait.

No, that one is preserved at Wroughton in TWA colours. Was dismantled and trucked there in the 80's.

That was Lanzairs N11SR allegedly had whiskey in the tip tanks is why it got impounded.

Lansair Connies
 

The good old days for some reason they would be seen transitting Jersey in the Channel Islands back then, leaving good oil stains on the apron where it would park for a number of days.

I thing the chap who owns the Howard 500 at Exeter was connected in some way.

If only the clock could go back a few deckades???

There is also a derilict Connie still basically in one piece, at the international airport ,Manilla. She used to fly fish to Japan but has been derilict for many years.
The story I heard was the operator was known as Winkies Flying Fish, but that might just be its nom de plume.

If you cut and paste 14 31'19.95''N 121 00'11.75''E into the fly to box on Google earth and decend to approx 250' agl you will be directly overhead her.

N11SR gave an excellent display at a Biggin Hill airshow many moon's ago. Nothing better then a connie on short finals at Jsy.:ok: :ok: :ok:

N11SR is the former VH-EAB Southern Horizon.
Have recently returned from Kuwait where we successfully retrieved some pieces of her for display in Longreach for the QFM.
I'm keen to find any information of the current whereabouts of the mysterious Capt Duncan Baker of Lanzair.

I understand Duncan Baker sold the Howard 500 N500LN back to the USA in 2009. Up to that point it was still based at Exeter or Dunkeswell as I recall; I think he also has a US registered Pitts S-2.

Is there still a Connie parked at Nantes Atlantique?
