Beer? Lucky sod, I'm now at work - and PPRuNeing!
The aircraft in question is the Douglas BTD-1 Destroyer! |

Yes beer and we've run out. Have to send the missus out for some more. Weathercrappy in HK at present. |

Museum of Aviation Warner Robins, GA
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...y/b07a4a5a.jpg
Caught this bird out of place at the Museum of Aviation located just outside Robins AFB. About 1.5 hours or so south of Atlanta, this is the largest USAF Museum outside of Dayton. Part of the USAF's Museum program, they've got more than 90 birds on display - a lot inside, most of the bigger ones outside. Inside, a SR-71, U-2 share space with a B-29, B-25, P-51, P-40, etc. Outside, the biggest is the B-52D (wingtip in this photo) and a C-124. Other interesting jets include a B-57A (with the EE type bubble canopy), a WB-57 with the gi-normous wing! and lots of Century-series fighters. I wonder about the the Lightning F.6 in the distance. Anyway, great aviation museum in an unexpected location. |
On our way back from Havasu acouple of weeks ago we made a detour to take the kids to the Evergreen Aviation Museum atMcMinnville OR. Access by road is terrible but it is worth the trip. The building is new (and the first of five,) and custom built, A new Imax opens soon.
Of course the main even is actually too big to get in a frame: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...pruceGoose.jpg Just the scale of her tail is surprising. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...4GooseTail.jpg There were lots of other interesting aircraft too, Like this Gee Bee Sportster replica http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...J/A1GeeBee.jpg And I love the detail on this Trimotor. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...11Trimotor.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...rimotorInt.jpg Well where else would you put theluggage? http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2.../A6Luggage.jpg There were the usual Spitfire and Mustang but this Bf109 was really tidy too: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...VJ/A9Bf109.jpg A mint Beech Staggerwing: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...taggerwing.jpg P38, first decent one I have seen: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...sVJ/A10P38.jpg These are not quite common as muck over here but I guess they'd be pretty rare in the UK. They have an uncovered renovated model too. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...VJ/A5Jenny.jpg No US museum is without a Curtiss of some sort, (or two or three, ) http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2.../A3Curtiss.jpg Altogether worth a visit (Our 1.1/2 hours turned into 3.1/2) if you are near Portland, Oregon. |

Your pics are too good to be sized the way they are, and as you use photobucket you resize them to 800x600. If you cannot do it - we can. Great pics all the same. |

Thank you for some great shots. The thing that strikes me, is that the American museums always go for highly polished/finished floors that then show the aeroplanes off. Can you possibly name the aircraft please. Some of us don't always know the names. Treadigraph will I expect! |
Fundación Infante de Orleáns
"Fundación Infante de Orleáns" (FIO) is a collection of 30 historical aircrafts still in flight. You can see almost all of them flying every first Sunday of each month (except for January and August) at Cuatro Vientos Airport (LECU), Madrid.

Museo del Aire, Madrid
In Madrid you may also visit the "Museo del Aire". It's very close to LECU.

I took my son to Castle Air Museum in California in 2003 where we found a friendly, well laid out selection of aircraft which were pretty easy to picture and see.

Managed to shrink some more pics, this time from Hill AF Museum in Utah, USA. Another nice museum with lots of access to the aircraft, although the inside is pretty cramped.

Anchorage
Apologies for the so-so quality of these.....the light was fairly poor. These were taken on a trip in August 2006.
Waco http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...1/Tavelair.jpg A grumman Teal? or Widgeon...I can never remember http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...21/Grumman.jpg And this Beech http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...21/Beech18.jpg Since all the aeroplanes featured have floats, it`s not surprising to find that the museum is on the shores of Lake Hood, this Piper sitting just outside the museum: http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2..._021/piper.jpg The road to the museum is also a taxiway for the outlying areas of Ted Stevens International Airport; 50 yards away was this http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...ranchorage.jpg Was it worth the $10 admission fee? Not the best museum I`ve been to, but on a wet afternoon in Anchorage not a bad way to spend some time. Their website is quite good (the photos being better for a start) http://home.gci.net/~aahm/ |
Defence services museum, Yangon, Myanmar
Lots of interesting stuff in here, including Dakota, Spitfire, Piston Provost etc. Plus also some Slingsby glider products: Dart, Swallow and Capstan.
-All in MAF colours. I took some pictures there in 2003, but got my ar5e kicked for doing so! However I now have a better understanding of how the country works, and will have a go at asking first with a 'present' for the guide... I'll be there in a week or so. Loads of other interesting stuff there, but very badly lit and only some English captions. |
