Southend Airshow - worth a visit??

Hi all,

Anyone else taking a trip to the Southend Airhsow - 25/26 May? Should be a fun day out. Apparently there is going to be around 40 displays from the RAF, Army, Navy and Royal Marines and also the Red Arrows giving the crowd a great display....

Cheers.

Haven't been for years - but I used to live in the area and it was always well worth a visit.

The Vulcan is doing fast taxi runs at the Airport as well.

Saw it pootling around a couple of weeks ago when I was down there in the Yak.

Thumbs up

It most certainly is worth a visit - it's not every day you get to see a Harrier flying sideways along Southend Seafront.

Now if only they could get the Vulcan to take part as well . . .

Damien, par excellence!

Can you give us a few details on camera type etc, I can only imagine that these were taken by a digital.

Continued

I put a comment under airports as I went to both bits of it and I concluded that it was far better than last year at SEN airport.

For some time I stood next to a camera person with a press card 'Air Scene' publication and his equvalent fromthe 'Evening News' (may be the southend local) however they both commented that at the airfield because of the proximity of the a/c it is one of the best UK shows, as at many of the others you are too far from the a/c.

Lots of people at the airport yesterday for the departures and all a/c did a low pass on leaving. In addition a DC8-63 African International departed which was in imaculate condition.

Pretty sure the spots are reflections of dust within the lens - that shot was very nearly directly into the sun, and took a little bit of Photoshop work to darken down to what you see above. Couldn't be bothered cloning out all the specks, just the bad ones.

"Challenging" conditions at Southend, shooting into the sun when it was out, and shooting into shadow sides of aircraft when it wasn't... still I got a handful of really nice ones which will go up in a full report on the show on AirScene-UK soon.

I know what you mean, Leuchars is like that, straight into the light, very difficult to get decent shots.
