Well, I think the Navy should have a whip-round,and get it ready for the CVF when it comes along.

The prototype was built Hayes and then dismantled and moved by road to Aldermaston for it's first flight on the 19th Sept 1949. Trials continued from Aldermaston until early November when testing moved to White Waltham.
Production a/c builds were split between Hayes & Stockport.
The Hayes a/c went to RAF Nothholt for their first flight and then flown to White Waltham for the installation of operational equpment and final testing.
The Stockport machines went to Ringway from where test flying was carried out.
All the AEW 3's were built at Hayes

Too bad Maggie couldn't round one up during the Falklands business.
For want of a Gannet, more than one ship was lost.

Many thanks etsd0001. I went over to Hermeskeil (museum) near Trier, in November and almost wish I hadn't. Not the best season to look at once proud machines, rotting away. They have XL450 there.

And there's a Gannet at Midlands Aviation Museum, in need of some TLC. Unfortunately they just don't have the cash. Lovely a/c they are. The Gannet was one of the first a/c where I could remember what engine powered it!
