Who was Max Conrad?

Nice site, but odd that there's no specific mention of what was perhaps Conrad's best known flight, in June 1959, when he flew Casablanca-Los Angeles nonstop in a Comanche 250, covering the 7,668 nm in 58 hours, 38 minutes. He overflew the welcoming committee at his intended destination, El Paso, and kept on going. When he repeated the trip five months later in a Comanche 180 he landed at El Paso with 10 hours' fuel remaining. I recall that in 1964 he forced-landed a Procaer Picchio on the Greenland ice cap en route Italy-USA. Conrad was soon picked up; the Picchio may still be there.
