How does the WW2 Corsair wing fold work?
Airshow aircraft when folded show the wings past the vertical with no locks in place. The image below shows the wings at the vertical with locks.
So were there different operating modes for wing fold mechanism and how did they work?

This blog is a good source on all things to do with USN aircraft, though your question is not answered directly: https://tailspintopics.********.com/search?q=corsair This also looks like an interesting site: https://www.jdsf4u.be/
I suspect that, in service, the struts were used when the aircraft was being parked for a time and maybe also when weather conditions were such as to risk damage if the folded wings were not held in position. Some other carrier types also had such arrangements, the style varying according the wing design etc.

Thank you for the reply.
Not so much a question about the locks more about the position of the wings. Could the wings be unlatched and the locks attached lifting the wings to the vertical or did some marks of Corsair have different fold mechanisms?
Here's a good example for comparison.

The markings appear to show a RNZAF Corsair. The photo here shows another one with the wings folded: https://x.com/raafvictoryroll/status/698624521096470528
Perhaps it is related to having to tow the Corsair with wings folded?
