RAF QASTINA - Palestine, now Israel
A recent request made to my ex RAF squadron association has me flumoxed.
We have been asked where the enquirer can find the names of all his father's Wellington conversion OTU course members on which he flew as a student pilot, between 15 July -3 November in 1944.
He was on 'D' Flt, No 18 Course at No 77 OTU at RAF Qastina, Palestine.
Having never heard of Qastina, I now learn that it's name was changed by the Israelis to now be known their as their air force base at Hatsor (ICAO = LLHS).
Purely for modern-day interest, I note that Hatsor is situated just 7 miles inland to the sth,sth-east of the Israeli port of Ashdod which the Israelis have finally agreed to open up for Gaza food relief via the northern crossing point, after the Biden/Netanyah telecon of early April 24.
Would anyone be able to give me a few hints where a Course Name List might be found?
I gather that the Mid-East OTUs were under command of No 203 Group. Anyone know if their F540s are at The Nat Archives at Kew, and if so under what AIR reference?
