Fireflash

Okay, so the Fireflash was fictitious but I'm curious, was there ever any real world aircraft designs that had or considered passenger seating within the wings?

I think one of the Dornier flying boats of the 1930s did.

Damn! Finally a question I could have answered - if you hadn't got there first

I was just reading about the G-38 last week

So I'll go with . . . the second G-38 (D-2500)

but wait, what about that American twin with pusher engines and a gun position built into the froint of the nacelle? Not exactly passengers obviously, but then again not not passengers either

Fireflash always reminded me a bit of the somewhat contemporary (with the programme) Super VC-10.

I guess model makers just cannot overcome real world influences when designing sci-fi vehicles. Thunderbird 2 has wings that look suspiciously conventional.

If I remember correctly, the flight deck was in the vertical stabiliser so they would see the pitch down quite well…………..

Wasn't the original Fireflash a beam rider air-to-air missile tested on the Swift F7?

The Fireflash was flown on trails Meteor NF11 and the No 1 Guided Weapons Development Squadron Swift F7s at RAF Valley. The Hunter-derived P1109B was used for Firestreak missile tests, not for Fireflash tests.
