Robert P Davis-author

Robert P Davis wrote a number of novels about life as an airline pilot during the 1970s to the 1990s one of which was called The Pilot which was released as a film in 1980. They seemed to accurately reflect airline flying in that period but I can find very little about the author. Would anybody be able to give some biographical information about him? There is a small note on the imdb entry about the film that resulted from his book The Pilot that the real life basis of one of the characters in the story was the Captain of AA191 the DC-10 that crashed at Chicago.
