Hamble 741A, hoping for the VC10 course..

No idea of the registration, but here’s a photo of me and my Hamble (741A) mates in front of a BA VC10 at LHR in ‘74 or ‘75:

The best Hamble course (741A).

Pretty good odds that your photo shows G-ARVM Nightstop. I'm pretty sure it's a Standard VC10 and only three of those were ever painted in the 'negus' scheme.

On the left hand side of the 'bullet' as we look at it - looks like you can just make out an 'F' at the end. But I don't think G-ARVF was ever in Negus as got sold in the UAE?

Sadly not. We were streamed for the Trident, but the whole course was put in the holding pool after graduation. Several lucky course mates soon the joined BCal Executive Charter fleet, expecting to go onto their Navajo’s but ended up on the BAC 1-11 course straight away. From there they joined BA, upon the acquisition of BCal.

The one Standard that is most often associated with the 'negus' colours is G-ARVM, but G-ARVF and G-ARVJ also carried that scheme, see here:
https://www.vc10.net/History/Individual/GARVF.html

https://www.vc10.net/Airframes/cn_812__garvj.html

Both 'VF and 'VJ were of course repainted into UAE and Gulf Air colours respectively. Based on DH106's sleuthing, I'll change my answer to G-ARVF

I'm loving all the schemes on show. I remember that for some reason towards the later period of of VC-10 operation in and out of LHR, they all seemd to park on the apron between the old Terminal 2 and the old Terminal 2 multi-story carpark. I used to love standing on the top of the carpark and watching and listening to the the sounds of the VC-10 coming and going.

Some of the photos that started this thread are now up on my site. I have combined them with a set of photos that was found at Filton several years ago to show three very early VC10 flight decks. It is a bit of a 'spot the differences' page for aficionados, but I guess it's not the only page on my site that could be described as such.

Enjoy!

Jelle, Thank you - much enjoyed and now very confused!! The nav panel in picture 14 is the Doppler Navigator display.

Thanks! I have corrected the caption for that photo. I considered adding photos of the final BA Super VC10 flight deck layout and C1K flight deck but figured it might get even more confusing

I considered using it in the 'what cockpit' thread, but while I was on the subject of flight decks, I finalised this page and have just added it to my site: https://www.vc10.net/Technical/FlightDeckDesign.html

I'm fascinated that Gulf Air had VC10s. When I was at Muharraq in 67-68 they were flying DC3s

A guy I used to fly with on the A300 did his Hamble course as a BOAC cadet around 1964/5 and expected to go on the 707 or VC-10. He was very suprised to be sent to the Gulf to fly the DC-3 for about a year before he got his 707 course.
Gulf Aviation was part owned by BOAC until 1974 when it became Gulf Air owned by Bahrain, Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Oman.
