A Fokker DRI, but big..

I think it was in '73, that I read a letter in the EAA mag, sent by a guy in the mid west. He happened to have a Packard Merlin in his barn...and fancied building an aircraft. So, he did.. Decided on a Fokker DR1 Triplane. But since he had plenty of power..He built it three times scale. Used whatever stuff he had on the farm, like scaffold tube for the frame and whatever wood was available for the rest. He was running engine tests, when it jumped the log that was chocking the wheels and he found he was flying...managed a circuit and landing.. and flew her/it a few more times before he wrote to the EAA. To prove it wasn't a spoof, he included a photo of him leaning against the lower wing of this huge DR1.
Does anybody have any onfo on this and what happened?

The photo looked gen and his description was much longer, plus some other comment about the letter. Think he was ex military from Korean times.
