Service record

Just thought I would ask here first, but where should I start to find a family members wartime service file? '38 to '46 in the RAF. I know some of It, but there is a gap of some importance.
Thanks
DW

Go to the` Gov.uk` website..look for Military records...find `Subject Access Report`(SAR).....if you are a surviving close relative you are entitled to obtain the records free....if not ,the site will tell you how....fill in forms, send off, wait a month or two ,receive parcel......

The wait for records is now much longer than a month - much nearer to a year.
