F/E retirement age BA/BOAC
I understand that pilots had to retire at 55 at BA (though I believe, it was later changed to allow captains to continue as SFOs upon reaching 55?), but did the same rule apply to F/Es? If not, what was the normal retirement age at BA/BOAC for flight engineers?

No simple answer, except for those whose sole relevant airline employment was with BOAC and BA when it was 55 with an option to go after 50. Even then management could extend beyond 55. I think that applied equally to Pilots and Flight Engineers.
If a merger was involved, it would depend on the age rules for the previous company and any deal that may have been struck at the time to allow later retirement for line flight crew. The licence age in those days was 60.
At times of need, a very few selected Captains returned as SFOs for brief periods but it was infrequent - there was no across the board change in that respect. That might also have applied to some Flight Engineers but I don't remember meeting one.
