Poster of a Piper in the 1970s

Ok a long shot here and it needs someone as nerdy as me....

In the 1970s there was a poster of a celebrity, probably a popstar, but he had a beard and looked a bit like George Best, crouched on the right wing of his aircraft, probably a Piper, facing backwards with the door open and the cockpit instruments clearly visible behind him. It was a charismatic photo and is a pose I have often put passengers in after a flight for a photo and it always looks good. I have tried in vain on the internet to find the picture.

Does anyone else remember the picture I am referring to or know who the celebrity was?

Wasn't David Essex was it? He had a Piper Aztec I think... Can't recall if he ever had a beard though...

Very similar! That might well be the one. Thank you Mark101! I thought he was on the wing but it has been almost 50 years and I may have misremembered or there may be a similar photo taken of him getting out.

That’s the one! Thank you for finding it and proving I am not going totally mad. Doubtless the flight was done properly and for hire and reward or perhaps Best I don’t go there!

NEA were an air taxi company operating out of Ringway before it became Manchester Intergalactic Megaport and the light aircraft area was buried under the second runway, They had Learjet 35s at one point. What became of them, can't see any current activity on Google.

NEA were a professional outfit . Even to the extent that some charterers could have a safety pilot on something as single pilot as an Aztec .
Did a couple of days with them , on round the houses . Multi-stopper for Littlewood pools back in '73 .

rgds condor.

NEA were bought out in 2010 by (to be short-lived) Ocean Sky, which lasted until 2012 I think. (Others can doubtless reopen that 'can of fish-bait' if necessary)
