Vintage aircraft over Sussex

I was walking the dog today and heard the sound of an old aircraft. I managed to get a look but couldn’t make out what type.

It was quite large and seemed to be followed by a ‘chase plane’ they were heading west.

This was 10.40 along the coast between Newhaven and Brighton.

Anyone any ideas?

Waco YMF-5 HB-DMO and the Junkers F.13 replica/reproduction HB-RIM were heading along the coast there at that time! Good spot!

Dunsfold final 'Wings and Wheels' this weekend 15/16 before they start building 'little boxes' nobody wants, so maybe they were making their way there.

The Waco is of course a replica/reproduction, too, built in 2018.

Ah, thought it might be. Like to see both of them.

Often think we should have an interesting sightings thread, either on here or on spectator's balcony.

I was born in Meopham, Kent, but moved when four. On a visit to view old haunts, we bumped into a preservation guy in the old windmill and he told us of the accident over the village when a Ju F-13 crashed with some dignitories aboard. Not having heard about it before, I looked it up and apparently it suffered structural failure and broke up in the air.

Edit: Wiki has it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meopham_air_disaster
