USA Freighter History

Good website dealing with US freighter history (and a touch of Europe). Several of the companies are still around. Lots of pix and airframe history:

Thanks for posting

Great memories of many of those 707's passing through ATEL's H4 at Stansted in the 70's and 80's

It's interesting that some Zantop L188s...and crews...went to Channel Express for a while. Had a college buddy who flew DC6, CV640 and L188 for Zantop. Last time I inquired about his whereabouts on pprune, someone said the last they knew of him he went to England with the L188s. He led an interesting life. Also had a late mentor who was a DC6 captain for Zantop. He had some interesting stories and had high regard for the chief pilot at the time.

"Zantop began its overseas Electra L-188 contracts with Channel Express of Bournemouth, England, in the latter part of 1989. Contracts flown included flower grower contracts from the English Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey, and newspapers flown from inland England down to the Channel Islands. In addition, there were Her Majesty's Mail and Parcel Post, as well as UPS, and occasionally FEDEX contracts were helped. UPS was flown initially from Southend at the mouth of the River Thames to Cologne, Germany. From Cologne (Köln), Zantop flew to Zaragosa, Spain. Zantop flew under callsign CHANEX while under contract to Channel Express. Zantop crews were taught European procedures, and Zantop crews and maintenance taught Channel Express employees how we flew and maintained the L-188 Electra."

I was with Channel Express and did my L188 Flight Engineer training with Zantop at Willow Run in early 1990 and then flew with the Zantop guys and gals in Europe.
Names I remember:- Billy Webber, Tim Haller, Ron Storm, Scott Teasdale, Bill Yocky, Bob Dotson, Bob Baron, Erica ????, Janet ????, Lisa Root, Jim Majors, Carlos West, John Turner, Mike LePine, Stan Woodbury, Jack Morgan, and many more.
Good times.
