I'm happy to confirm that Comets were used EDI/LHR in 1966. I was the most excited SLF (age 10) on G-APMG in July that year, on my way to Brussels (changed to Sabena 727-100 OO-STB at Heathrow).
In my experience, nothing beat the rush of the Comet for jet-propelled excitement, easily as good as lucky later flights in Concorde and back seat in a Harrier.
I imagine that Edinburgh operations could be interesting on the flight deck too. It would be interesting to hear any reminiscences from those who flew us at the time.

Incidentally, the Moonjet was 10 quid in 1973, and DUB/ORK was 5 punts.

These posts bring back memories of seeing the Aer Lingus 1-11's at Glasgow/Renfrew before the new Abbotsinch airport opened in 1966. Also Carvairs (on a Saturday I think). Once Abbotsinch opened BEA used Comets.,Tridents and Vanguards on the Heathrow route in addition to the British Eagle 1-11's.. I remember one of the British Eagle 1-11 schedule flight number to be EG764.and the Viscount service from Liverpool as EG754, both arriving similar times early evening.
Re the EI 1-11 IT holiday charters - The chaps on the EI FB group say they did DUB-Palma Rimini Menorca Ibiza in the early years at night...

The 1-11s still flew some IT charters in the 1980s, when on a Saturday evening most of the Aer Lingus European fleet undertook night flights to various Mediterranean resort airports.

I remember seeing, from our hotel room a few miles away, EI-ASO going into Corfu one evening, must have been early 80's. Very handily, they had only one 707 so I was able to 'cop' it without having to read it off
I recall staggering back to my hotel along the beach path as it was then from a club in Playa d'en Bossa in 1975 with my pal at about 2am and the jets were screaming over the beach non-stop on short final to land at IBZ - one of the those was a Aer Lingus Jumbo swooping over my head.
The Ibiza island Govt had just blown up the newly built big beach side hotel (big money scandal, and the Mayor had to resign) that had been sited right on the final approach path and the rubble was there for years...
